Remember the story about Sheikh Mansour giving all the players a free watch

Heres the apology http://www.sportspromedia.com/notes_and ... d_damages/

Manchester City, the English Premier League soccer club, has won two media awards and been awarded damages after The Sun newspaper claimed Sheikh Mansour, the club's owners, had given a number of players watches worth £168,000 at a reception in Abu Dhabi.

The damages will be paid to charity, after the newspaper admitted: 'No such gifts were made and Sheikh Mansour was not present. We are happy to set the record straight and apologise for any embarrassment caused.'

The Sun has a very long history of making stories up.

Clubs like City and other businesses that have the wherewithall to fight back, have forced it to pay back millions in damages over the years. Sadly, it has also created many individual victims and ruined many lives in its search for a story.

It is a contemptible lttle rag...only fit for wiping your arse on.

Mad stuff, seriously, they printed an apology about a week after it happened and again about a month ago. The club should frame all the different ones and put it on the boardroom wall to laugh at in times of dispare

It wont stop them from the next bit of crap they print though ...

The guy who sits behined me at City said he'd read or heard an interview with Bellers, aparently he's made a fortune in damages payments that papers etc have paid him (mostly out of court?) because of some of the made up crap they print ...

As are all the red-tops.

Waste of thirty pence, or whatever they cost nowadays, never read them personally. They're all shite and full of yesterdays news and the sports writers are just free-loading lackies and fergiescum-lovers.

I'm sure they had to apologise again a few days later after Karren Brady mentioned it in her Saturday column. What a comedy outfit

Scanning through the papers yesterday, several had reports from the City hotel and training camp in AD.

The SUN seemingly weren't invited though.

Funny that.
