Of course it wasn't, he got none of the player and actually scraped the ball. The fact that the player was already throwing himself through the air instead of actually trying to play the ball says it all. He cheated and he got away with it. ITs not nice, but if it were us I'd say fuck it and take the draw over the loss.

Liverpool may have had the lion's share and plaenty of chances, but just like us at the swamp, Birmingham were robbed of great result by a bad decision.

Was a disgusting dive and if it were one of ours I'd ne ashamed. Rather lose than be like the Shite were when always defending Tranny for his dives. If we can't win by sticking the ball in the net then we don't deserve to win, would go fucking mental if any kid I coach ever dived.

agree with that sentiment. He should be banned for it, even had the chance to make a pass. Disgraceful and from the referee.

Trouble is - I dont see too much differance between this and Bent's (Sunderland) 'Dive' at the weekend for his Pen ...

... Apart from the fact that he's an up and coming English player playing for Elephant Man who the press seem to have bum love orgies over ...

... Shows you how the Press and TV reports can Highlight one as discraceful and not the other huh?

Lets just hang all the cheating, fowling Foreign players - I bet they're steeling all our cattle and rustling our women too!

I think the FA should ban him for 2 matches, then rescind it on appeal. That's only fare isn't it?

On the same lines, I was talking to a bindipper fan yesterday and said that due to their financial plight if they fail to make the CL next year and the bad press the FA/Prem league would get, that if they were losing to Brum at any point, that the ref would give some dodgy decision to get them back into it.

Seems I'm getting these predictions right more often than not ;-)

Would have been no different had Gerrard done it. The clip was shown more because it was a high profile game and the only one on that day. I have no issue with foreign players nor do most, diving however is disgusting.

Having watched that clip over and over again I think I can see Carsleys foot hit the ball. Look really closely at how his foot behaves at its nearest point to the ball and it looks as though his foot bounces on the ball ever so slightly. It doesn't alter the line the ball is travelling on but I think he gets the slightest contact on it. No contact with the player though!

Never got the ball, not a penalty either.

Personally the player should not be crucified, the ref should be. We need a better breed and the only way they'll learn it to drop them to the championship and promote refs from there based on performance.

Yes he may have won the pen. However, I think he won't win a pen for the next two years. The refs never give pens to known divers. Unless they play for the big clubs.....damn damn.

I agree that refs need to improve but in that particular case Pete Walton never stood a chance - there's no way he could really have been in a decent position to make that shout. The only way that could've been avoided is player honesty or video replays - and neither of those two are going to happen soon...

The ones I work with openly admit it was a blatant dive and are embarrassed by it.

They are also very worried about their next home game btw!!!!

Never a pen, worry for football it is young players Ngog and Liverpool should be ashamed, that said one of the worlds best players has done Ath Madrid, Sheff Utd, with dives and plays for the same club, oh he plays for England, silly me..

An I heard today was at the incident Ref asks the player did you dive?, if says no Pen if the video proves he dived and then lied 5 game ban. Woeked in Germany I dont recall it,better than demoting a ref who like the oposing team has been cheated.

Think the football worlds done this debate back in August with the Eduardo dive.

We go on and on about what cheats footballers are, which they are and most will do anything they can on the football field if they can get away with it. Yes Wash dived, but he isn't the first and wont be the last; Darren Bent dived just the same 2 days before - he dived so early he nearly headbutted the keepers gloves. The debate will rage for a few days on what we can do and the answer is nothing until the footballing authorities make a stand and throw in retrospective punishments then the diving will go on - bloody Uefa rescinded Eduardo's punishment despite clear evidence of cheating so what hope is there? Gerrard's a diver, Rooney takes a dive, Bent's a diver etc etc, Wash isn't the only player doing this, yes he's a cheat but doesn't deserve singling out either when he's one of many footballers who cheat at any opportunity to gain an advantage - its part of the modern game whether we like it or not.

This will die down in a week, but the debate will rear its ugly head again the next time we see a blatant dive which sure as death and taxes we will do again.

a dive and no contact, but look at the aternative...

the defender has thrown himself across the line of his run. In order to continue his run on goal he has to hurdle the oustretched leg, and maintain his balance as well as his control of the ball. Chances are that wouldn't be possible, so contact or not, Carsley has obstructed his run and prevented the goal while making no contact with the ball.
if it's not a foul it should be.
