Doom and gloom!

We've lost one game in 10 in the league, 1 in the last 15 games including friendlies. Conceded 2nd least goals in the league. We are currently placed 4th in the league with a game in hand and also a place in the quarter final of the league cup. We are not playing great but we are managing to NOT lose games. What the fuck is everyone moaning about??... I think we are suffering from being a little spoilt at the start of the season maybe? This team is still coming together and finding its feet. Give it time ffs! Any manager bringing so many players in in such a short space of time would take time to get it right! The way some of you are going on you'd think we were 4th from bottom! Be grateful!

This statement is very misleading. Did you know that we could hypothetically not lost one game all season and be 15th with 10 points?

It's not "doom and gloom", more "reality and honesty." Eleven points dropped in six games is pretty disappointing and not good enough if we are to hope to maintain our current position. The mentality of just counting losses shows a backward mindset and a failure to adjust to our new reality, where all points dropped are precious.

This team is showing no signs at all of either finding its feet or coming together! It is visibly going backwards at present and I hope to the sky fairy above that the management, players and owners don't share your complacency!

I'd prefer to see it as patience then complacency. What's the other answer, sack the management or unload players? Yes we're having a fucking terrible season ain't we! Hang em high! ;)

OD, I am happy with where we're at but Im unhappy with where it seems we're heading. We had a great start to the season which is masking over our recent slump. If it was the other way round and we started off sluggish but now firing on all cylinders then I wouldn't be concerned. I am concerned though that we've dropped 8 points in 4 games.

Also, our performance (especially today) was shocking and in truth we didn't deserve a draw. I am also worried about Hughes going 4-4-2 instead of 4-3-3 which we already know works a treat.

Why the need for such kneejerk extremes? It's surely possible to have a rational discussion of where we are, where we are going and where we need to get to without either demanding a change of manager or going to the opposite extreme of condemning any discussion of the situation as heresy?!

Do you think Liverpool will challenge for the top four?

I think we both know they will, even though they are in a bad run of form. They won't get worse and worse as the season progresses and its a bit weird to presume we will, especially as we're in the process of climbing the table rather than sliding down it.

You say you're happy with us having climbed into fourth in the league with a game in hand. Then enjoy it mate. And don't bother trying to fear for stuff that hasn't happened yet. You tell me how the other BIG teams would cope without their star striker, their best defender and their record signing? If they were in fourth with a game in hand other those circumstances you and I both know they would be more than happy at this stage of the season and we have absolutely no right whatsoever to presume we are better than those teams.

I agree with what you've said but I don't agree with not worrying about what's not happened yet. It kind of already is happening.

We're playing very poorly and achieving just above relegation form of points. I don't like that the system has changed to 4-4-2 and I can't understand how these individually talented players that we have are performing so utter shite.

Think most folk are most likley fucked off with the past few performances fella, probably starting at Villa. I am and from what I see if we carry on with such performances we wont be where we are for long. Yes we are fourth, but will we stay there based on what we have seen today??

Mate, personally I'm the first to panic and think 'Same old City' but there are more positives now than we have had for years. We are lucky and fortunate to even be able to look at the top 4. All we have ever had for 30 years is hope season after season and now we have a realistic chance at being a top 6 (which many would of been happy with before the season started) or even 4 club. Lets take a few poor performances on the chin like we are used to and remain positive because whatever happens we WILL move forward and our silverware will definately be polished and in the cabinate sooner or later.

Agree with that basic premise rural

But the simple fact is that I cannot believe that anyone on here thinks that what we have seen in the last few games is the best we can see from this playing staff and coaching staff. We've stuttered a little and the performances have, I fully admit, been pretty lamentable. However, I have full faith that we can play MILES better than we did even in the opening games, so I see absolutely no need for widespread panic when we draw a few games.

Adebayor being suspended and then injured has hurt us, Robinho we have missed, Ireland and SWP we have really missed and I fully agree with what CtK said on another thread....as much as the defence has looked a bit suspect at times I would say that much of this is down to the law of averages and the fact that we are not retaining possession nearly well enough at the moment and we are inviting a horrific amount of pressure onto our defensive unit, which in turn makes it look a bit creaky.

If we get any of the above players (or preferably all) back fit and in form and as a team we start stopping lumping poor balls up or across the pitch then I am wholly confident that playing pacey possession-football we can EASILY finish top 4

I am not against us all critically appraising performances that have not been good enough but what is irksome is the usual extreme kneejerking from certain posters (which is predictably tiresome but not unexpected) and just mindless brainless fucking tripe from other idiots.

Fair enough if some of you want to give up hope and start another boring period of agitation but I'd rather enjoy the ride.

Ignore league positions for a second, hell you can even ignore the results and tell me, are you happy with our last four league performances?

Then ask yourself before these games happened how many points would you have expected to take?

Answered truthfully, how the hell can you not be disappointed and/or angry? The people who are expressing their anger, disappointment, fear are at least being honest. You're middling, give it time, look at the league position, things will turn around attitude it just a delusion giving hope based on nothing.

Yes we are 4th, but last night especially we had to get a result against one of the "easier" teams. When we come into a run of Spurs, Chelsea and Liverpool and we come away with nothing(and it would be understandable to lose those matches) you will see 4th skip away from us like a gazelle who spotted the lion. We have had two golden opportunities now to cement our place so when the tougher games come up, we are well poised to take a hit. Now we are spitting distance from Stoke in 9th and that is a very real and very honest fear.

No doom & gloom from me. If you'd have asked me before the season that after 10 games we'd be 4th with a game in hand i'd have snapped your hands off. Recent performances haven't been great but surely it's a sign of a good team that when you are going through a relatively slack period that you do not lose games? Three of the four draws have been away from home and yes, the Fulham game was a wasted opportunity, but we are not losing and that bodes well imo. Some team is gonna get a right whooping soon, i can feel it in my water!!

Reading Doug's training report, the team were prepared to expect a physical battle and were told to keep the ball on the floor and out play Birmingham.... We got the physical battle which we lost and we hoofed balls up field all day long.... We did not have any creativity in midfield at all. Sweeps is at his strongest running at players, but just recently seems to be playing 1 touch football. Ireland should have been on from the start. The season seems to be going the same wat as Svens, great start but worked out by the opposition far too quick...
