The System we are using

Pretty crap I'd say.

I'm not saying Hughes out, eventhough I think this will be his final season in charge. Let's face it, the system he insist on playing will never get us consistently results on places like this and to get where Sheik is aiming that is a must. He made all the excuses last season and promised to deliver this season. I see individually better players in system Blackburn were using. Absolutely no creativity in the middle of the park. The distances between attack and defence are constantly too long. And now that we got Santa Cruz there, it was clear why he was bought.

I'm sure the usual happy clappers will be here telling what a massive result this was and had it not been ref/Barry Ferguson/ McLEish's dog we would've won.

Today I Agree

Totally agree, this system makes absolutely no sense,

The gap between forwards and defense is far to large, the fact that tevez is dropping into the whole and barry/de jong are sitting is completely pointless because no one is getting in behind,
Barry is borrowed time for me at the moment and needs a good kick up the backside, he is either not good enough to do the job he has been given to do, or else hasnt been instructed properly, whats the point in having all that pace out wide if we dont have a player in the centre who can put the ball in behind them.

No midfielder showed for the ball deep to carry it forward like any half decent midfielder would and givens frustration at this was apparent many times, we didnt actually play and football today and continued to hoof it long even when roque was off....

Its a joke

there's a system? eh? lol. they looked utterly clueless today, no idea what the plan was at all. hit and hope, crosses and long balls to the giants swp, tevez and bellamy? wild shots, panicky defence, dire passing, the list is long...

sheesh.

I hoped we were wrong about Hughes but I'm starting to fear that the original analysis was accurate :O(

Our good start is keeping us up there but can't help feeling we are 4th by default and that we need to see a huge improvement to keep us there.

I think the owners will wait until season end to make that call. Overall though, there has to be concern that we are playing this poorly--today we sometimes looked like a Stuart Pearce team--long balls up the middle, easily dealt with. Apart from a few well crafted passes from Tevez, there was no silky passing in evidence.
God bless Shay and keep him healthy..

4th by default is a very good call. others are crappier than us i'd say.

it will certainly be the end of the season, agreed. hughes must be worried about his position. these owners appear to be super shrewd. they won't tolerate a few more games of this shite though.

No need for any big rows over his future. He can have this season and if we still play like this and aren't anywhere near top 4 come may, he will get boot. I'm sure of that.

Still stand by the current position that it's shit or bust with Hughes this season. Time for change is past. But getting less hopeful and more worried by the week. All we can do is sit it out and see where it goes, no point panicking.

Absolutely diabolical, I am sorry but we have been complete and utter shite for a few weeks, the draws are doing nothing more than papering over the huge cracks, except for a lot of luck and poor opposition finishing over the last few weeks we could and should have been beat, we lack any organisation or game plan .

Was it only me that could see that the non entity that is RSC was limping around the pitch for over an hour, clearly unfit it is glaringly obvious that his knees are totally fcuked,Hughes plays him for nothing more than justifying his sacking of the entire City medical team to secure his signing

Route one football week in week out, it is obvious that the sign of things to come is get the ball lob in to the box for RSC to limp after,Robinho will be gone January with Steven Ireland close behind.

This rag b@stard is going to destroy us.

And whilst I am on a rant what ever this cnuts excuse for being in Spain on the eve off a big match it simply isn’t good enough, he should have been at the team Hotel going over game plans or the fcuking lack of them.

Agree with just about everything written in this thread, and what an absolute farce that performance was. Around the 65min mark I sat to myself thinking how can a team assembled of such high calibre players, remind me of the team we had under Pearce!?!

Just like last season, players who started out looking very impressive, have gradually got worse and worse. Just about everything about todays game was plain horrible and shows despite all the money spent, in reality it's the same old story from last season. Time to earn your crust Mr Hughes, cause some of the natives are not very impressed!

One that makes us look at least as good as Birmingham City? 4-2-3-1 is supposed to be the system Hughes was looking to play but for some reason he has reverted to the outdated flat 4-4-2 he used to employ at Dirty Darwen. Maybe the defeat at the Swamp has scarred him in the way that the Liverpool fightback seemed to last season. He needs to stay bold and not retreat.

Utter twaddle, keep playing like this and we will end up being lower table but not by default. If we cannot break teams like B'ham down where will that leave us in May??

Not fourth by default thats for sure
