If she gets it it will settle the debate on whether she is good enough, i'd be interested to watch this one.

Absolutely. It'd be funny to see the reaction of some of the usual old dinosours if she finished above them.

The debate was never was she good enough, she may well have all the tactical knowledge of a male counterpart, may know the training regime's and strategy's to lay out a season plan and knowledge to execute it.

The problem is will she be accepted by a male dressing room and having spent a lot of time with professional footballers, I can tell you they are the most misogynistic group of guys you are ever likely to meet. And the sad fact is, it's not just a few of them..out of the squad of 30 we had, I can tell you there was only one guy there who wouldn't cheat on his wife, mainly because he was the wrong side of 30 and couldn't afford a divorce any more.

Hope Powell could be brilliant, ingenious and better than every guy in the industry, wouldn't make a bit of difference.

Sorry, I worded that incorrectly, but if she's good enough, she'll win favour. It will be an interesting appointment.

better way of wording it. just because she gets the job, doesn't mean she's up to it. But I have no problem with her having the opportunity.

I do completely agree with slim though ... having been on a few teams at a semi-serious level, I can say that I really can't see a woman being able to command a group of those guys, no matter how tactically savy and intelligent she may be. It's not a question of that at all.

Most footballers are silly boys. Maybe a matriarch is just what they need.

Good luck, I hope you get the job.

Her only hope of getting a job in the football league was if she was to start at a club in the Blue Square Premier or below and work wonders and work her way up. No chairman in their right mind would risk such an appointment at this stage in her career.

Sister of Fu might be able to answer this a bit better than me

but does anyone know if she's gay or straight?

I assume there's a good chance that she's the former. I dunno if it might make a difference. And before Crossan starts calling me homosexyphobic again the reason I mention is it that most gay girls frankly couldn't give a fuck what men think and say to a much greater degree than their heterosexual counterparts.

Whether that translates into the rhinocerous hide that would be needed to deal with 20 odd cavemen and effectively manage them is another matter altogether

Whether she is or not, she definitely won't have problems with footballers trying to get into her pants & I doubt she'd take shit off them. Whether a big gang of blokes will accept her though is another matter. I doubt it unfortunately.

HAHA!!!

One of the biggest mysteries in football revealed.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

Don't imagine it'll make a difference
No idea how good she is, No idea what standard is required in that division, but hope she gets a fair crack at it

Im quite sure that Hope is a sister but im not sure if that holds a relevance to her getting a job in men's prof football. IMO I hope to god that she has not applied for the job. I feel that the ridicule would be horrific in the media and that the intrusion into her personal life would be very unpleasant.

The piss taking had already started on Talk Sport when I was driving home with the typical pig headed comments from the likes of Adrian Durham (um I question what he has done in football that matches was Hope has achieved.) I applaud those that have posted on here already as your views have been fair and well directed.

The problem Hope has is that there is no bigger high profile job in this country than the England's Women's international team for a women coach. Hope is in a position now where I feel that she has taken them as far as she can (you can knock women's football all you like but she has really turned the England women's team into a force) and needs to do something else with a career. I just hope that's not a venture into the men's game as I fear for her, I really do. Apart from the obvious media intrusion people are going to want to jump on her at every opportunity and she will have more pressure to deal with than your average manger.

I agree with all the posts about prof male footballers and how she would be treated and some of them's compete lack of respect for the female species. Football is not like any job in the world and though it hurts me to say it there is not a lot of room in football for women. For instance I am a manager where I work I have several men working under me and they have complete respect for me but I work for the city council taking legal action. Most jobs in the world I would happily encourage equal ops but not in prof football management. Don't get me wrong if she goes there and is accepted and works wonders I will hold my hands up but I just feel there are to many rather high hurdles in her way.

Someone has to be the first one, though and I have a hard time seeing anyone better equiped to do it. It'll probably be very hard, she probably won't last long, and it'll probably be a personal hell for her. But perhaps she opens the door for future female coaches.

Brian Cloughs issues at Leeds Scum in the 70's is a cracking example of brilliance not being accepted by the players and pretty much getting pushed out by them...

Personally I couldnt give a flying one what sex a manager is or thier sexual orientation - if they get the team playing and win things - but as in the above example - its not just the technical skill and brilliance, its how the team of players react to you.

As for 'Being the first to open the door for others' I cringed when I saw John Barnes on SSN a day or two before he was fired spouting off saying how him being the success he is at Tranmere will act like a shining light to all other potential black managers .... If there are still prejudices like this for football management then I dont think he helped to make them better...

If it was a fair and equal playing field I would more than say go for it but it's not going to be. She would not be offered the same amont of time as a male counter part, she would prob have around 90% of people at the club not wanting her there and she would only be there as a gimmick. Saying all this I'm sure she would do a better job than John Barnes....!!!

I think a 15 year old with a fresh copy of fm10 would do a better job than john barnes did.

edit: I think I'll give it a shot. I'm 25 but oh well.
