Cards were already on the table after the weekend. Odd they didn't give him a while longer really, they may as well of just got rid when they went down. Unless they have someone planned to take over ..........

Their chairman really gives managers a fair crack at it. Southgate made a right arse of it. Perhaps he can help Pearce fuck up England when Capello moves on?

Only thing that suprises me here is the fact that he got so long in charge. Tactically ridiculously poor, couldn't understand transfer markets at all and whenever I saw him talking he oozed losers mentality.

I'm sure only thing that kept him in the job was the fact that he is good nice man. Bad example by Gibson of what happens when you let your personal feelings affect personel selection.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

It 'felt' like pearce was being groomed for the role, put in charge of the U21's and given a role with the senior team to learn from Capello - I think he might have shot himself in the foot though when he threw a wobbler in the technical area during that last U21's tournament. It would be a disaster if he got the job to be honest.

its a very strange decision to take now. why not before the season? What was the mandate at the start of the season? I am sure Gibson would have been perfectly happy if you told him that Boro would be 1 point off the top of the table after 13 games. The championship is a very competitive league, therefore, I reckon Gibson has someone better lined up. I dont understand his thinking otherwise.

I agree that southgate has never looked comfortable in the hot seat, however, he will always have the 8-1 to remember.

didn't they lose three on the bounce after a decent start and got done 5 by Wesbrom?
I agree though that Gibbo must have someone lined up.
What about this fella with a Director of Football. Been done here before:

Never criticise a man until you've walked a mile in his shoes.
That way when you do criticise him you'll be a mile away.
And you'll have his shoes.

Gibson just blew his reputation for being the most patient manager in the league. 2-0 home win, 4th in the league and a point off the leaders. What exactly is the panic? In my book they are on course to come straight back up, or they were.

Sven must have turned down the Sweden job for a reason...

Haha, as if Boro could afford that mercenary! I know your joking Wooders, but how funny would it actually be if the North Korea-flirter ended up at one of English football's most family friendly "nice" clubs? From authoritarian leader to loving father figure, all in the space of 2 weeks.

I think this shows though that Gibson has not panicked, far from it. Fans have been calling for Southgate's head for years and this will therefore be a considered decision over a long period of time, finally decided by some of their results this season (0-5 was it?). The timing is just coincidence. He will have planned the next one, Strachan they say. Strachan to me is a little bit like Steve Bruce - dire as a manager initially but seem to get the hang of it with years of experience.

I think he made the decision based on low crowds for home matches - he wants a fresh face (with a decent reputation) to claw the fans back.
