City V UAE 12th Nov.

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

City V UAE 12th Nov.

Postby Dubaimancityfan » Thu Oct 15, 2009 9:44 am

Announcement was made in local papers. MH and Cook were pictured with the match ticket.
Surprised nothing was mentioned on the OS (or did I miss it ?). The match is also not shown in the Nov. fixtures.
Speaking of which, has City ever played a National Team or will this be a first ?

I actually went to see reserves play Thailand national team few years back in mini-COMS.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

It was announced on the OS, tickets at £5 open seating and £22 for sitting somewhere in the middle, they go on sale on Tuesday.

So, local knowledge? Abu Dhabi/Dubaimancityfan, any idea why the difference in price and if the £22 tickets are worth it?

I fly out to Dubai on the day of the Burnley game (stupid idiot that I am I forgot to check the fixtures when I was changing our plans!) for a week, can't wait although I'm assuming it will be our youth team (plus Stevie and Johnno) playing as everyone else will surely be on international duty.

I think the 22 ones were addressed vip tickets.. I think its supposed to be sideline upgraded seatings with light refreshments..

they are on the main stand .. right of this picture..

if you took the 5 pounds ticket you can sit anywhere else you want.. other than the main stand..

this is the view from the opposite side.. (from the screen)

depends on what you really prefer.. I tried all views on that stadium.. nothing is bad..

Thanks AD

My inner pikey is thinking the £5 ones will be fine then, at least we can all congregate together more easily that way. I'll double check at the ticket office to see what the "light refreshments" entail.

So now that we know the venue it is probably time for some more detailed planning.

I'm staying in Dubai that week and so will likely be jumping on the bus on the morning of the match, blue b4 the moon mentioned the Etihad shuttle which I assume goes between the airports, are there other buses that run that route? How far from the Airport and the centre of AD is the stadium? What should I not miss in AD?

I think you should go for the £ 22 tickets mate. You'll get a much better view of the pitch from there. No way its gonna be a full house so I'm buying my ticket at the gate.
If you are spending the night in AD (which is what I will do), I suggest the best way to get to AD from Dubai is to rent a car (not very expensive). In that way you can drive back the next day whenever you like. As far as I know there is no good bus service from Dubai to AD. You'll have to hire a taxi.
Alternatively I can give you a lift from Dubai on Thursday afternoon but as I said I will spend the night there.
Can't help you on what not to miss in AD. I don't know it very well. Only thing I can tell you is that if you want to get a drink, you'll have to go to one of the hotels (same as in Dubai). It would be worthwhile of course to have a look at the Emirates Place Hotel.
But what's this talk that it will be the reserve team playing ?? I thought City will have a training camp in AD during that time. Are there really many internationals being played on that day (I know England play Brazil in Qatar on the 14th ??).

The players usually join up with their squads well in advance though surely?

Thanks for the offer of the lift mate but we'll be wanting to go early in the morning so we get the full day there, was considering a night in a hotel there but we obviously have a hotel in Dubai that we're paying for too so we'll be playing that one by ear.

Don't drink much these days so won't be worrying about that

Dubai, If you say there is no good service from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, then you havent been up to date mate.
There ARE good services. Good buses and convenient service on the Inter-Emirate Emirates Express.

The bus goes from Abu Dhabi to Dubai and opposite in 2 hours and costs 15 Dirhams per person (thats 2.5 in pounds which is great value). The first train sets off at 6:20 and there is a train every 40 minutes. Same timing (Schedule) from Dubai or from Abu Dhabi.

Any transport to and from stations could be easily done by taxi, as they dont cost much compared to UK.

So if you going on Matchday morning, I'd suggest taking a Taxi to Ghubaiba Station and take a bus whenever you want starting 6:20 (40 minutes intervals).
However if you are not staying the night you would not catch up a returning bus as the last bus leaves at 21:40. Alternative is taxi from Abu Dhabi to Dubai wich will cost around 40 pounds. Cheaper than spending the night in Abu Dhabi though.

Here is the information about the Inter Emirate buses (have a look Dubai)

Anyway, I'm not sure about the Airport to Airport route. Sorry about that.
Abu Dhabi Airport is 10-15 minutes drive from Abu Dhabi City Centre. The Stadium is on the exact same route halfway.

AD mate, I've never used a bus to go to Abu Dhabi ( I doubt that you have !) so that's why my info on this is poor. But taking a bus from Dubai and then taking a taxi back for 40 Pounds (approx 250 Dhs) doesn't make sense. You can rent a car for 24 hours at half that price.

Hmmm, from looking at the timetable it looks like the last bus home is at 9:40pm which won't be late enough. So it looks like I'll need to weigh up the cost (and availability) of a taxi versus a cheap hotel and jump on the bus first thing the following day

If you are thinking about staying over in AD for one night then check out the Novotel. It's fairly cheap for a twin room at about £70 a night.

I'm hoping to stay at the Novotel.

Is anyone willing to share a room there?

Novotel is the cheapest and quite a few of us are already booked in there so maybe just book a twin room and keep the sharing offers out and maybe somebody will take it up.
