Argentina want Tev and Pablo to sit out Monday

Argentina want Manchester City to leave Carlos Tevez and Pablo Zabaleta out of their team for Monday's clash with Aston Villa.

Under-pressure coach Diego Maradona is keen for the duo not to be involved as he prepares his side for their crucial qualifiers against Peru and Uruguay on 10th and 14th October.

Eastlands manager Mark Hughes is very unlikely to be keen on any suggestion that he leaves two key players out of his plans for the Premier League fixture.

Reports in South America suggest that City have already rejected an initial approach but have offered to fly the duo to Buenos Aires immediately after the match.

Maradona is now set to make a personal plea to City, with Argentina in serious danger of missing out on qualification for next summer's World Cup finals in South Africa.

The South American giants are currently fifth in the standings, with only the top four guaranteed to progress to next summer's showpiece and the side in fifth entering a play-off.

An Argentina Football Federation spokesman said: "We want to reach an agreement with City."

I would tell them to fuck right off!

I think the decision is ultimately up to the players. If they don't want to play, what can you do? You saw what happened to scouse two when Lescott didn't want to play for them.

We could cope without them anyway; put Richards at right-back and Adebayor straight back into the team. It matters very little these days now we've got internationals to replace our internationals.

But if they want to throw their places in the team away though, they'll have to fight like fuck to get back in and they might not make it for a long time.

Mate i reckon Tevez and Zabba will want to play both i cant imagine two top footballers wanting to duck out of any match through fear of injury etc.

Me neither. They are fit enough to play both matches, imo.

Its club before country for me. City offering to fly them out gives loads of time.

Can't see either of them not playing. Hughes will want them to, and I think they will want to too.

just read this on sky sports, the cheeky bastards. Does Zabaleta even start for them? And they want us not to play him?

If they don't qualify for the world cup (and I hope they don't), it'l be their own fault and nothing to do with City.

I think Maradonna (Argentina) should simply shut up. The players are officially released on Tuesday.

From an Argentian point of view, it seems a reasonable rquest.
From a City point of view, "Nowt down Diego"...If we need 'em...we play 'em!"

it wud be in our interests for argentina to qualify as it will give the pair something to perform for... i can see them giving up their hunger if they dont qualify which will affect us no end

Not a chance MUS...Tevez and Zabba are made of much better stuff....and there is too much important stuff going on here to affect their efforts.

we could buy some goodwill here.
As another poster points out, we can certainly do without them.

On the other hand, in the club v country debate, it's club everytime for me, so I'd tell them to stick it up their pipe. Diplomatically of course.

This is fucking shite, he wants Tevez to not play through fear of injury? Well fuck you you fucking cunt, we gave you a fucking fit player for the Brazil match and you returned him fucking injured. In fact I think Zabs and Tevez should pull out of your fucking numpty squad for fear they might not make the 'more important' Wigan game, and if you don't fucking like it then here's a big bag of FUCK YOU, how about you pay their fucking wages?
