Could be another betting scam like the one with Rafa earlier in the season.

Remember when talksport reported that Benitez had quit Liverpool cos some bookie had suspended betting on it a few months ago, probably the same old shite.

what is the specific "scam" if they've closed the books? is it the rumour-mongering that caused the line to move that is the "scam" you are referring to or something altogether different?

i remember the Rafa rumour but didnt pay attention to any specific scam that was alleged to be part of the betting line moving.

unlikely since he can't even pay the wages.

Harry is building something nice at Spurs...i am excited about him and Spurs playing well and being a real challenge. Fantastic villians. High drama. More good, solid teams in the league. And Spurs are playing a more physical game this season too, right? i have only seen one match but they looked like they were playing an aggressive brand of football that had the focus on closing down players aggresively and still play some nice stuff. THis was when Modric was still in the side tho...

My point is i LIKE having Spurs playing well, and helmed by the twitchy cheating cockface that is Harry. He's a fucking loon and a character and i don't mind that at all. it's fucking high drama and great entertainment and will be all the better when we cornhole them given those facts.

that's just me tho...

The way I understand it is that the gang wager big amounts of money for him to be sacked, big enough to dramatically alter the odds and then they bet much, much bigger amounts for it not to happen.

Sounds like a scam with lots of potential to backfire. Surely bookies are very likely to close betting as soon as the original suspicious bets go in. And I can't imagine any bookies offering odds of a successful manager in form not being sacked!

It's a pump and dump. Managers are a good bet because the odds start off high and change really fast on them and rumours usually precede them going suddenly.

3 ways to make money:

1 start a panic and the manager goes. Collect

2 trade your bet to other punters &/or bookies seeking to reduce their exposure (cover their losses with counter bets)

3 put in large counterbets on the exchanges.

Once betting is suspended 2 and 3 look a lot less effective.

EDIT:
4 leak news that finishes his career or blackmail him into it.

agreed...you can't bet enough to move the line one way or another without creating the attention that will thwart the plan.

I'm not saying it's impossible, because it is after all just a physics problem at some level...but if someone can explain it in more detail i'd love to hear how this betting scam works. I'm sure if it works it's an extremely complex set of transactions involving varied amounts over select periods and would require a level of calculus that is not for the average mafioso and more likely some university-heeled community of white-collar thugs. Anyone have a version of scam story that makes sense?

Agree - I started this season trying to be cautious, but I just get this feeling. For some reason I've been keeping the newspaper match reports, never done that before.

I know, it's very easy to let things run away from you when we are playing this well. I know we should be reeling in the optimism before it turns into expectations, but can you imagine if we beat Villa on Monday? Short odds on Antii breaking out in "Sparky sparky give us a wave"

A poster on a West Ham forum is claiming that the NOTW are running a story on him tomorrow, so (fingers crossed) this might have legs yet.

Would love him to get his due's but love it even more to see spurs without him as they will fall apart they showed last season hes the reason they are playing well and without him they will drop points quicker than a whore drops her knickers.
