Or so says The Guardian I should say, smacks of guesswork (surprisingly) I'd say! Why would they expand the ground when we've never really sold out 47000 on a regular basis...

Wouldn't surprise me.

People may not not know, but the club/owners have just bought the freehold of the City Store.

As in the property and the building, or as in the licensing rights?

They are on course for record season ticket sales apparently, so who knows?

maybe if we get in the top 4, it will open the flood gates and all the fans will come and watch. then we might get 60.000.
cant see it myself though.

However, the club still have to raise the idea with Manchester city council, which will have the ultimate say as owners of the stadium.

My arse. This will have all have been talked about with the council since day 1, they will be over the moon at all the free development in the area

Maybe the owners have more ambition and foresight than some of our supporters. Too many years in the doldrums may have meant that many of us have lost the dream, time to get on board and enjoy the ride.

remember, when we were still in Maine Road we had season ticket waiting list of 40k or something like that. When we first moved to COMS all the games were sold out at first.

Lot of people however seemed to grow tired of 'mid-table mediocrity' and godawful football under Pearce. Maybe the lack of anything serious to look forward to affected the crowds as well.

So I'd say that with succesfull football team we'd have every chance of filling 60k ground in ten years time. Especially if we hold on to the current line of offering very cheap season tickets to youngsters and kids. Brilliant marketing strategy that by the way. Taken from tobacco industry! Get them hooked young and you have lifelong customer!

City's first home game of the season, against Wolves on Saturday, has not sold out
That really is piss-poor!

There are about 100 tickets left in the third tier. All the 1st and 2nd tier seats have gone.

This has been mentioned before and i can confirm that City have put out the tender to architects to design our ground to become a 60,000 capacity stadium. My friend works for one of the architects that has tendered. All it involves is re-designing the North & South Ends. Remember, The Emirates used the plans for Citys ground as a template for their stadium so use that as your base as to how Eastlands will look in 3 or 4 years.
Can we fill it? Not yet but the Rags, Chelski & Arsenal were not filling their grounds 20 years ago were they? When success starts to roll in then so will the crowds and the tourists etc. We are unfortunate enough to remember, and in some ways still be part of, the bad times. Kids of 8 or 9 years old now will not know anything other than success for City and we will become a huge club once again. 60,000 may not be big enough in 15 years time.

To be eventually demolished to make way for an extended northstand , which will include a Fanzone, with ticket office, museum and superstore, amongst other improvements

thing is, it's been so bloody easy to get tickets for a couple of seasons now (added to the ease with which you can purchase online/see if any are left) that the last seats will usually only ever sell last minute. Don't really matter when they sell either really....it'll be full.

I reckon that if results stay positive, this won't be the case for much longer tho....we'll be back to the days of getting a ticket when KK was in situ. Bloody impossible at times

I think you're probably right LAHAD, I don't have any fear about us selling out un-televised games on a Saturday at 3 o'clock against a team with a big away following like Wolves. I have my doubts however, that we'll be able to sell out midweek night kick-offs against the likes of Portsmouth and Fulham etc. I suppose time will tell. Chelsea's crowds haven't exactly gone through the roof since they came into money - okay so they pretty much always sell out the Bridge (at 41000) but away from home they're still a little hit and miss.

If we win some trophies and start doing well, the extra circa 10-12k will be filled no doubt.
The Rags sell 75k nearly every week,we will get our fair share of overseas characters and Japanese Tourists.
