fucking idiot....I would like Stevie to go back to international football but this is a perfect illustration of how to get someone with Stevie's character to NOT go back to playing for the Republic
very badly handled this whole thing has been. I think that pretty much guarantees he won't go back whilst Trappatoni and Brady are in situ.
Can he play against the bestGiovanni Trapattoni has questioned exiled Corkman Stephen Ireland whether he has the heart to play against the top sides in International football. It is two years next month since he left the Irish team, but his displays for Manchester City in that time have been fantastic.
Trapattoni has asked Ireland to reconsider and wondered if he has the hunger to return.
He said on
http://www.elevenaside.com "I wish he comes back but I think I know why he has not because I have had many players like him. We are David and Italy are Goliath. I used to think I could not play against Goliath, against players like Pele, Johan Cruyff and Eusebio. I could have gone and hidden but I didn't.
"I became famous because I played against these famous players, but because I myself was famous. I was not the good player but I was marking them. I had the willingness to play.
"I am proud of the players I have in the squad now because they all play with heart. We might make mistakes but they play with heart."

Ireland are really desperate for a player like Ireland. Their midfield is shit. You would have thought they could come up with something a little better than insulting his mentality to get him back?

He plays in the best league in the world against teams that would wipe the floor with most international squads, Trap needs to put his thinking cap back on

I reckon that's a very clumsy attempt at reverse psychology by Trapatoni!

Perhaps they might want to explore those stories about bullying and what should be done about that to avoid pissing off the best Irish talent since Giles or Brady.
If he never plays again for them, it is no skin of our nose.

I'd quite like to see Steven play in the world cup for Eire.I hope he's encouraged by City to change his mind about his international career, with his new confidence in himself and his talent,i'm sure he'd do himself and City proud.

I think it would be a real shame for the lad and a loss for the country if he doesn't play for them but my only concern is that he continues to perform for us

I've mixed feelings on this one, I'd love to see him playing for Ireland, but on the other hand think it would be unfair on the other lads who've done the donkey work so far.
a midfield of mcgeady, whelan, ireland, duff, wouldn't be too bad

I'd love to see Superman play in the World Cup (if ROI qualify) but, storys of Stephen Hunt bullying him, pulling his hair out when he last played for them, it put's me of him going back. It's quite obvious it emotionly scared him because for a player of his quality not to play for his country is pritty strange.
Anyways as people have said already, it's not a problem for us it's an advantage if he stays in retirement but like I said it would be a shame for a world class player not to have the chance to show what he can do on the world stage.
Trap is a fucking idiot if he thinks reverse psychology will work on Stevie. They need to do the complete opposite to make him come back, which is beg.
God I hope de Jong cripples Hunt when we play Hull, horrible little shit.

I'm glad he's not returned yet. The lad as shown he's committed to club football for now, and his performances on the pitch, have been nothing short of brilliant. He will return I've no doubt about that, but its upto him when that time comes.

Doubt that is going to work. Stevie comes through as sensitive lad and the relationship between him and IFA is tense as it is. Hardly going to improve the relationship.
Their lost, our gain.

He's going to have his Irish games struck from the record then in a few years captain England.
