The Club denied Mancini story too until it happened. It's a bit like a Chancellor denying a devaluation until it happens. They may be telling the truth but I don't think a denial counts for much to be honest. In any case the story is that isn't a done deal yet so they're not lying...

I'm not gonna be some dick and reveal who that person is who told me cos life doesn't work that way, but I speak to him often and he's dead sound so I believe him. Whether the club are lying or not obiviously is a different thing altogether.

When he says 'been told by the club..' who does that mean?

Got in touch with their press person I guess, Mase. Someone at the club who journalists speak to i presume. To be fair I didn't think to ask him that at the time and it'd feel a bit weird to email and ask now. I don't know more than that, though the wording they used (which I won't repeat cos it'll lead back to him) was pretty amusing and to the point when denying it.

Naturally it could be all a smokescreen anyway. They could be telling him lies... Who knows.

If the Club really wanted to rubbish the story they could brief that they're entering negotiations with Pellegrini to extend his contract. Of course no one expects that to happen and they're not going to say it. A fag end year with Pellegrini is hardly ideal. If The Guardiola Bayern relationship is cracking City will be interested I have no doubt about that. The question is whether things have reached the point of no return or whether we're hearing the backwash of a row which could yet be resolved with Pep staying. It's really hard to know.

Nice one. I guess we'll see this summer. A lot of things have changed with City after the take over on the field but sometimes I think not much has changed upstairs with the way the club is run.

Pep has also said he honours his contracts in the past - and when he was linked with us after his sabbatical he was quoted as saying he didn't negotiate with clubs which already had managers. Circumstances can change obviously, but if he is a man of his word then it suggests this rumour is bollox.

Looking through this thread, I think we need to be careful not to get ahead of ourselves. Things like bookies odds are driven purely by the market, if people are lumping on because of the rumours, then the odds will go down, if there was any certainty that the rumours were substantiated, the reality is that the bookies would have pulled the market so in this case, bookies odds are irrelevant until the market is suspended.

I read on here people excitedly talking about the story appearing in x newspaper or y website as though it added credence to the story......they are all simply reprinting the same rumours. If Dietmar Hamann knew something, why did he only just happen to mention it yesterday.

To bring this back from hysteria levels and into reality, just a little reminder of how this story came about :

A Twitter user named "Munich & Germany", with a history of ITK tweets that turned out to be wrong, tweeted that city and Guardiola had agreed verbally, posted at around lunchtime yesterday. He cited the source as BeIN Sports. BeIN sports at that time and for the next hour was running a live studio program which discusses hot news topics, and this story was not mentioned, which for me rubbishes the theory that BeIN sports were the source of the story as the Twitter user claimed.

It was in fact nearly 3 hours later, at half time in yesterday's 3pm games before Richard Keyes said that they had breaking news. Throughout the day, they kept the line 'sources close to BeIN Sports' although the story changed from 'agreed verbally' to 'advanced discussions' suggesting that whilst they were now running with the story, they were backtracking somewhat from the original verbal agreement that had been claimed.

In the hours since the original tweet, more and more people are crawling out of the woodwork to claim they have the inside track, which clearly they don't or they would have broken the news themselves and claimed the glory.

i think Tancredi Palmieri is possibly at the centre of all this, as I recall him making the exact same claim last summer as this 'Munich & Germany" character, that Benatia had signed for City, and I wonder if they are not one and the same. He is BeIN's go to guy for gossip and tittle tattle, which, if Ted is right and Keyes has said that it's an impeccable source (which I didn't hear him say on the TV the whole day I watched), there's every chance that he is referring to Palmieri, who is a bullshitter of massive proportions.

Basically the whole timeline of the story breaking yesterday doesn't add up - all we have is one tweet. And everything else you will read today is nothing more than speculation.

I certainly wouldn't rule out Guardiola coming to city next year, but the timing of this story stinks as either an attempt to destabilise city for our run in, or do the same for Bayern in their semi final.

If he asks to leave he'll lose his 'loyalty' bonus, so expect him to put in the hard miles if it turns out to be true (which I seriously doubt).

There's actually nothing strange about the timing of the announcement. If some random bloke who has a poor record tweets something, of course Richard Keyes & Co are not just going to broadcast it as fact. Someone will start asking around. If they then find a source they trust, telling them they can run with it, then they broadcast it. All that shows is that Keyes is at least trying to behave like a proper journalist.

As for comments about it being 'strange' Didi Hamman & Lothar Matteus 'waited' before backing the stories; they were on a tv show, so contacted their sources ( presumably Bayern Munich) & confirmed on that show, that they have been told talks are taking place.

Imo this points to someone at Bayern leaking the story in the first place. Whether it's true or malicious or designed to sway the Bayern board into a decision, who knows, but I recon it's come from their end.
