I don't get the outrage. We have not signed him to play 40 games a season. Who else could we have signed this late?

John Terry was never quick. Rio Ferdinand's legs have gone but they are still top defenders.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO BE FAST TO BE A DEFENDER.
It's 10000x more important to be able to read the game and anticipate. Someone with those qualities will get to the ball before someone who is just fast 95% of the time. Sure pace helps but it is not high up on the list of what you need to be a central defender.
Maldini was never a speed merchant was he.

We don't need a fast defender when defending with a high line?

Terry was awful under AVB who tried the high-line in late 2011. They conceded loads, including 5 at home against Arsenal.

It's better to have someone who can spot the danger and stop it early, rather than relying on someone having to use their pace to cover up their bad positioning.

Positional sense, aerial ability, tackling, anticipation are all far more important than pace for a centre back.

If only we could sign a young Sylvain Distin again. He'd be absolute perfection alongside Kompany. Pace, power, elegant on the ball and totally fine in a high line scenario. He'd have developed so much in a side like this.

Alas we'll have to make do with a slow and aging Argie centre-half. Ah well you can't have everything can ya?

When most of our defenders lack pace I think it's an important requirement personally for the man coming in to have plenty of pace as one of his attributes. It's key in providing balance to the back 4.

This, he is a improvment from Lescott. Better than Kolo? Only time will tell.

"Pellers", or what ever you want to call him, is older than me and just signed a contract securing a fantastic pension. Wouldn't bring in a duffer ? Is he even involved ?

At his age, his knob being on the line is meaningless. Likewise i look forward to the player coming on in the 93rd minute to secure a 3-0 away victory .

Unless Pellers is a marathon runner , then at his age , his knob should work wonders :-)

My words were that he's very good, and he is. He was excellent all last season - his debut season in the league. Not remotely average. He'd be our second best centre half if he played for us.

There is absolutely no way Demichelis is better than Lescott. He's even slower and even more error prone. Not looking forward to this at all.

He IS better than Lescott FFS.

It doesn't matter if he fucks up ten headers per game, picks up nobody, gets skinned one v one 8 times out of 10, turns like a fucking battleship, is constantly out of position, hits hopeful long balls, fails to mark at set pieces etc etc, the point is; HE IS ALLOWED TO.

Lescott made a mistake during the game v Hull, & every one Lescott mistake counts for ten by Savic, Boateng, Garcia & all the other useless cunts that the same people have pedalled as being better than him, until even they could take it no more.

Nastasic pissed on Lescott Saturday; different class.

Ya know what. I'm actually tempted one day to make a few Lescott comps from some of his games of all his touches and see just how he compares to our other defenders just so I can have physical evidence to highlight his worth. Your delightful post just reminded. Cheers as ever, Ted.

I thought I was pretty fair in my assessment of Lescott and did highlight that he was on his own defending, so that sarcastic general sweep shit can fuck off right now.

And if people are polarised against Lescott, maybe it's your dumb cunt essay length replies that say next to fucking nothing that has people against him.

You are so up your own arse around here these days, I wonder whether that's where you keep your high horse and your fucking soapbox as well.
