I said early he had a decent game. Class is probably a bit of an exaggeration, but I see what you mean.

I think one decent game a season is to be expected though given his experience, no?

Mase mate, I said it before, he's a better defensive option than Kolarov. He has be prone to error in the past but currently is worth his place ahead of Kola for the likes of last night. But to be honest we need an upgrade on both of them.

He's been one of our most consistent performers since the turn of the year.

I think Pellers has lost faith in Kolarov, before Saturday ( when he probably had his best game this season ) the last game he started was against Leicester in which he stank, he then was brought on for Clichy in the next game against Spurs and was partly culpable on their goal and has barely featured since.

For me Pellers made a brave and right decision to leave out ya ya and allow Kevin to play centrally. I thought he would omit Jesus but he stuck with him and he worked his arse off for the cause. Fernandinho was disciplined, only once did he do his daft dive in and get wrong side, and very good with the ball. A brilliant display which showed what he is capable of. Him and Fernando worked as a unit better than they did in Paris and that was very encouraging. The Otter and Cliché did well defensively but cant keep the ball under pressure and end up hoofing it. Not good enough at the level we aspire to. Will be interesting to see if Kompany comes back who is preferred next to him. For me Mangala is the better all round cb despite a brain fart per game. Great night and delicious when Kevin slotted home. The beauty of this guy is he always knows what he is going to do before the ball arrives.

I would like to keep Fernando, he can really help us defend and tracks back. There were some close-ups with Fern 1 talking to him, my guess is that they were speaking about what they need to do to stop Lucas and Pastore. Now, imagine Fernandinho trying to say the same things to Yaya.

I think Fernando could be the answer to our Kompany problem (his eternal injuries) if he bulks up a bit for the Prem - he has the makings of a great central defender - not too sure about his leadership though which is one thing that might be missing. He has consistently been one of the best (if not the best) tacklers of the ball in the squad his whole time here and he reads our own defence excellently.

Not detracting from his performance last night, but he does seem to struggle with the concept of passing under pressure, which won't sit well with Pep.

I watched the game again earlier & without the stress & strain of it all we were comfortable pretty much all night. There was a 15 minute spell at the start of the second half where they upped their tempo a bit but we dealt with it very well.

The team selection, tactics & application were spot on & the character of the team as a whole was very impressive particularly after Sergio missed his spot kick. It would have been easy to let it get to us but we just kept going. A cracking night all round.

Clichy & Fernando were very good on the night but there were a few stand out performances all over the pitch.

I really couldn't give a shit who we get in the semi finals coz if we play the way we have over the two QF legs we can beat any of them.

That's the way I saw it while watching live. The difference was I was still nervous of a cockup, while it remained 0-0.

Knowing our luck, we'll go and win it this year, just at the point we'll never play Villa again so they can't sing their daft chant. Bloody typical City.

Interesting to read the comments in the middle pages compared to the analysis at the end. I know we all get worked up during the game but, I think some of you are more influenced by the commentators you're giving out fuck about, than you let on.
Those watching on the Irish Channel TV3,
seemed to have a much more positive look on things during the game.

We got fair praise from Neil Lennon Kevin Kilbane and of course the Dunnie Monster.

I thought, to a man that was a fabulous performance. It was probably the best TEAM performance I've seen from us this year. It was nervy because of what was at stake, but everyone had a job to do, knew what it was, and nobody shirked the workload.
When things weren't going well, it didn't waiver us. Everyone stuck to the plan and we were well worth the win.
The two Ferns were immense and anyone who cannot see the value of the two of them working to that standard in our 5 man midfield, whether it's KDB or Yaya inthe hole in front of them, well I'm watching a different game to you. FACT.

Great night. Pellers got it right, but everyone did their job.
If we could get that workrate until the end of the season.

It would be churlish after getting through to the European Cup semis to be too critical, but if you can't see that we can't retain possession with the two Ferns on the park, then you're watching a different game to me.
I'm told it was possibly as low as 37% and all our attacking playets looked poor. We didn't keep Paris from having decent chances and rode our luck a little. We were crying out for somebody to put their foot on the ball.
Possession is key against sides at this level and if we get Barca especially, and give them the ball so frequently, we will get humiliated.

Well that's one less thing to worry about

Don't worry Chelsea will still be there to chant and ask where our European cap is?

Brilliant. Who was his competition? Mongala and Otamendi.
