if by "not bad" you mean "not in any sense of the word 'good'" and if by "reassure" you mean "create suicidal tendencies at the alleged 12M whack they're paying" then i think you're probably bang. fucking. on.

cheers

You look at some players careers and the money they change hands for and you realise football has now detatched itself from reality. Mido's career moves are still the biggest head scratcher though. The guy was damaged goods and boro STILL paid best part of 7mill for him

Bobby Zamora and Peter Crouch are probably two of my fave examples.

And then Bobby Z goes and nets that goal worth, what did they say.. 200M? to make everyone seem like they knew all along. Like a slot machine that hits for the old lady who just pulled the arm a couple times out of boredom.

cheers

Veron was a weird one, after watching him fail at the swamp for two years, Chelsea still wanted him and paid £15M for him. Then after 7 league appearances got loaned out again and again until they could get him off the books, £77M in 3 transfers to find out he wasn't going to succeed in England.

Anelka must certainly be in that group, although you couldn't say he was a failure in England in specific, tho you'd probably categorize his career as an absolute letdown vs potential i suppose.

Robbie fucking Keane? i bet he's had a wedge spent on him over the years that would shock you.

Joe Hart £1.5M(Paid for by Birmingham in the end)
Vincent Kompany £14M
Pablo Zabaleta £8.9M

Makes you wonder.

FFS, we were talking total transfer fees, Hamburg signed him for £8M, then we signed him for £6M, do you two need a fucking calculator?

Robbie Keane was never shite. He definitely had a load spent on him because of the inter milan move when he was a kid... and of course the big wedge the dippers paid. I felt sorry for him with that move because he did little wrong but rafa used him in a game he was playing with the board.

He was never top notch, but he was most definitely a quality finisher. His stats for Ireland as well are extremely impressive.

What do failures Anelka, Robbie Keane, Peter Crouch, Bobby Zamora & Shane Long all have in common ?

Clue: Image

Oh and: 'England international Milner had no complaints about his dismissal for bringing down Long following a mistake in midfield by Vincent Kompany and a glorious throughball by James Morrison.'.

I'm not one to say they were 'failures' Ted...just that when you look at fees paid out over a players career it is sometimes not reflective of their true value as players or, more importantly, their actual form and performance level at the time of these moves

I know, I just think it's funny.

I recon you could take it a step further & go through the proper failures, clowns, non scoring midfielders etc etc, & half of them have put at least one in v us during their careers.

cue Rodwell. He's a good player but you just know he'll do it. My guess is a volley from 18 yards in off the bar in the 77th minute...1-0...he'll strain something in the process then go off injured afterwards and not play again for the rest of the season

It can also be a reflection of how often a player moves. In VK’s case, for example, had he been less successful with us and we had sold him on, or lacked the funds to keep him, his total transfer fee value would now be more than it is for staying here and winning four trophies.
