Having done the coach for the last few trips to our home from home. Do virgin ban alcohol on the match trains?

Day of the match they are often 'dry' trains. Another reason not to do it!

I think that was common from old timers I've spoken to over the years. Particularly in the 60s and early 70s. And not just in Manc but London as well. I've met west Ham fans who watched Spurs regularly. And others.

As an old timer of that vintage I can tell you that it certainly wasn't like that in Eccles. If I had been told in the late 60s that one day I could take my daughter to a football match without having to watch out for trouble from opposing fans or the dibble I'd have not believed it.

Actually, I came on here to see if anyone knows when the club will start putting the tickets on sale - I'm hoping that I might have enough points for aforementioned child and self.

Me too, I'm 60 now, and it wasn't kind or gentle at all. As FrankSwift says it had stopped being like that years before. If you look at the youtube of the 55 cup final there are people holding up placards congratulating scum on winning the league and City the cup. By the mid sixties all of that had died a death, and the age of the hooligan had started.

National Express still have some seats available direct to Wembley from Manchester , £18 each way , 4 hours 15 mins each way aswell . Bit of a grind but decent price .

Used these twice. It depends on the drivers. Some are clueless. 1 didn't know how to get to the car park and we all piled off and took a photo of the reg to find him later. The other one headed to Liverpool on the M62 on the way home instead of going down the m56. Good luck.
