Gareth Barry

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

really can't make my mind up on this one. I am a Barry fan and feel he has been one of our most consistent players, but the truth is he is getting slower and found out more often. In the city days of old I would have had him as player coach in a Peter Reid, Stuart Pearce style role with the long term aim of him taking over as Manager, but guess those days are now gone, so maybe time to let him move on to a team where he can play that role of being the experienced head on the pitch to help the youngsters develop more, we simply don't develop youth currently so if he can't be a star player there is no room for him in our set up

Had this happened August 1st I could just about understand it, but knowing that Txiki and Pellegrini watched the Cardiff & Hull games and thought "we have a surplus of midfield steel; must get rid" is troubling.

I saw a gaping Barry-sized hole in our midfield in both games

I think Txiki has a total different mentally as we do. He is schooled on the Barcelona type of total football, well to be fair, the Ajax type of total football that Barcelona had.

Let”s not forget that at Barca, Pep and Txiki let Yaya go because he only defended, his offensive aproach was later found at City when Bobby pushed him up front. He will always prefer players that will attack, however, this is Premier League, not la Liga and if the defensive mid. won”t provide support for the center backs, that will be suicidal and the only player that could have done that was Gaz.

a hole which the Count will have seen as well and cannot imagine that Barry can fill based on how he wants to play.

Tucking Barry back into "the system" means he's not going to play his style of football. I have to support the manager's viewpoint. And as our fave hit and run driver Im_Spartacunt said the Count will lose a few matches by some tonkings, and i'd count Carfiff as the first. I'd expect a couple of 3-1s and 4-2s as well during the season. We saw Malaga do it at times didn't we?

A player that always split opinions when discussing his contribution to the team, however I always felt those that really understood football, and more so the defensive midfield role in general, realised his importance and the value he added. I cant help but think we have let him go one year to soon. The issue on Saturday was the defensive mids, yaya will never spot the danger Barry did and Fernandinho has a lot to learn in the prem. Lets hope Milner and Rodwell can step up. Thank you Gareth, an absolute top pro and played an absolutely crucial role in our recent success.

How Garcia has survived is a head scratcher, Gaz was proven, his performance in the scum Derby was worthy of a 1 yr extension alone. Fair play to him could have sat on his deal.

One of the stranger parts of Yaya's evolution is that the defensive side of his game has practically disappeared. I remember the Gamper Trophy game where he absolutely destroyed Barry. Closed him down and dispossessed him every time, to the point I was feeling sorry for poor Gaz. And of course let's not forget the UCL final against the Rags when he played CB and was a colossus. Now when he's left with mainly defensive duties, he swans around fouling and falling over. His inability to tackle against dross like Cardiff and Hull was shocking.

The only thing I can think is that Txiki and Pellegrini still think he's the type of player he was at Barca. Well, he's not.

Spot on, mate.

Bobby created a monster there, by using him up front.

I haven't seen enough of Barry to know if his legs have finally gone, but they hadn't last season; he just played a lot of hardworking games & it caught up with him.

Barry imo is one of those players, like Alan Oakes, who gets overshadowed by the 'stars' but is one of the first names on the teamsheet for managers.

If he's not fit enough then I understand this, otherwise it's bollocks.

Anyway; one of the best at his job I've ever seen & a City legend.

Thank you GB. Champion.

Champions League participation, FA Cup Winners (plus final) and Premier League Champions. I appreciate it as well.

I wonder what the stats were, when we won nothing last season, compared to the rest.
