Did Paul Mclaren show up and give an inspirational recital of Rudyard Kipling's "If" at half-time?

Just checked and the team we played last night are 3rd in the league with 3 wins, 1 loss and 1 draw so they musnt be that bad!

The team we have on monday is FC TWENTE something, They have lost 4 and won 1 so we should do well against them!

The week after we play NUMERO UNOS who have won 2 lost 1 and drawn 1

I think we should pick up points against FC Twente, and I think a draw against Numero Uno's should be ok!

We need to learn how to win games at this caper that's all. First half, four two up and well on top after an iffy start, it all turned to rat shit very quickly at the start of the second. I think fitness was a huge part of it, our tackles and interceptions ended and we all started getting a bit head down and trying to do it on our own rather than retaining our shape and poise. It was getting embarrassing after a while. Fifty minutes is a long game and I guess we need to pace our efforts a lot better. Oh and a few more shots when we're in the midle of the pitch instead of letting ourselves go so wide so often might be in order. Onwards and upwards. We also possibly relied on MarkMak's and Sven's energy a little too much, too early.

What does everyone think regarding tactics?

Do you think of 2 at the back at all times, 1 in middle (free role) an 1 up top that stays up top?

Im thinkin Image

Our main problem as Piccs stated was the 1-2's undoing us everytime, that's how they got their goals. With 2 at the back fixed in position, this wouldn't happen no matter what. It means maybe sacrificing the numbers forward but I'd be confident that the 2 players needed to attack would have enough about them to cause problems (1-2's etc).

How many of our goals came from a string of passes throughout the team? I don't remember one. As the pitch is so small, it's usually just a pass-pass-shoot or a solo effort.

Dunno if i'm over analysing, or even if i'm way off, it's just what i'm thinking. Feel free to shoot me down. I just think we need commited roles, especially at the back, because no matter how many we score, if we keep gettin caught out at the back we'll get battered.

Yeah your right but you cant have someone upfront if there not very good, and cant have good strikers defending. We neend to work out out who is good at what because we are strangers really at the moment. but i was shocked how unfit ive become, if i get my fitness back i should be firing.

its good to have set positions when in possession, stops you getting caught on the counter. But when defending its important to go man for man, otherwise if they commit 3 to attack you.ll be a man short.short.

True about if they commit 3 to attack but what i'm sayin is, even if they do that, if the 2 defenders are fixed in their positions then they will have difficulty getting through anyway. Plus the midfielder can track the 3rd player.

Also, it gives them a problem because they have got to worry about our guy up top, if they leave their defender 1 on 1 with our striker, i'd fancy our chances.

we can't lose with this, they wont commit 4 forward coz they wont wanna leave our striker up top on his own, if they do they are stupid an we will score by just hoofin it up. even at worst we are left with a 1 on 1 if they commit 3 forward.

I just think our problem is conceeding not scoring an by bein defence heavy there is no way we will concede a million goals like we did last night.

I played in the stockport power league for years and we always played with 1 dedicated defender at all times. This did not mean this person was only to say in his own half, it meant he was always between their forward and our keeper.

You will find that teams will mostly play this way and the other 3 make the runs and movement and use the last man as to pick the pass. the 1-2's will come with general fitness and and us gelling together the more we play and understand each other. after all we are a bunch of misfits thrown together by Andie ;-)

We cannot stay too rigid with a system or it will fail. As nickyboy said, man for man is the only way to defend and always close down the shot, dont give them time to wind up for a shot.

In five a side the secret is fluidity. Movement. Only one guy is needed at the back as long as at least one other is prepared to do his thang. Two guys staying back leaves the other problem of very few targets and options when trying to release the ball, often ending up with hiopeful punts. It really needs all four defending and attacking with equal vim and vigour. Fitness is the key.

One and two touch passing, fitness and organisation will sort our team out, but this will take time. I am sure if the lads stick at it and does a little bit extra fitness (if time permits in personal lives and they want too) then I see no reason why we won’t improve.

There is not need to over complicate what in essence is simple. One at the back and the other three as Bob said moving around the middle and the front positions. You just need to get used to one another.

As its been touched on fitness was the factor last night as the other team were no where near technically better, they just looked fitter, sharper and knew where they all needed to be.

If people want I can try and arrange a couple more sessions at Platt Lane but this would have to be on a Sunday or if everyone is ok to pay then book at pitch at the Pitz.

Wasn’t going to come on Monday but I actually found that I enjoyed myself and want to be there when we get our first win on Monday.

I do agree though with the masses "FU OUT"

ok so seems like the majority want the striker back helpin out rather than to stay up top.

I see it as having a constant threat up top, lettin them worry about us but if the team say they striker plays more of a midfield type role then that's cool. I don't think we will have as much goin forward with this but maybe with our midfield bolstered it would be worth it.

I'm up for tryin it.
