Hope I'm not reading into things, but from varying stories this morning and the Tevez turn-around I can only see one outcome. Maybe I'm stating the obvious, but eh, it keeps me sane - sort of ;-)

City on alert as Wolfsburg admit £25m striker Edin Dzeko could leave in January

Edin Dzeko has taken a step closer to Manchester City after Steve McClaren warned Wolfsburg fans he couldn't guarantee the crowd favourite would stay.

The German side have already drawn up a short list of targets in anticipation of a £25million bid for their Bosnia and Herzegovina international.

Wolfsburg insiders insist that talk of a deal already being in place are premature, but McClaren has softened the club's stance that their top scorer is not for sale.

'We are hopeful that Edin remains,' said the former England boss. 'He is a world class striker. But we are in the football business and nothing is 100 per cent sure. We'll see what happens.'

Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho is also keen on Dzeko but has been warned not to expect a big enough budget to sign him in January.

Juventus also fought City for the 24-year-old in the summer but are well down the road with alternatives because of City's interest.

Sportsmail revealed last week that Dzeko had taken the remarkable step of writing to the club to say that he wants to join them back in August.

Wolfsburg, languishing in 13th in the Bundesliga, would certainly miss a striker who has contributed 10 goals in 17 league games this season.

But in a clear sign that they expect his departure, they have made Kaiserslautern's Srdjan Lakic their No 1 January target.

The 27-year-old Croatia international has scored 11 in 16 games this season and is out of contract at the end of the season.

McClaren has recommended raiding his old side Twente for Bryan Ruiz, but competing interest from Liverpool and a £10.6m price tag have put off Wolfsburg.

Roque Santa Cruz is another option and he has proven Bundesliga quality from his time at Bayern Munich, but the Manchester City outcast would rather move to another Barclays Premier League side.

"But at the moment it looks like I am staying.

"I don't want anyone to get the wrong impression: I very much enjoy playing for Wolfsburg.

"But I also have a dream. I want to play in the Champions League every

I posted this above mate and when you read the quote's you can sort of read between the line's. Wolfsburg were in 13th place, 12 points off a CL spot the other day which is a long way off what Dzeko wants. I think the only question is where he is going to move to as Juve and Real have also been linked. He stated the other day that Real would be a dream for any player and that he would have to keep on progressing to look at that option and he recently played down talk of Juve as well. The one team he did not want to comment on was us for some reason which leads me to think there was a serious link there. Also, with Carlos' U-Turn without even being offered a dime, it makes me think that he has been given certain reassurances that he is going to get some help on the pitch from A N Other signing.

All speculation of course, but I know which deal my money would be on. The only thing in my mind is whether there's going to be any other strikers on the card, somone like Torres for instance?

The MEN have been running stories on Dzeko for around a week now. Even after Carlos did his u-tun, their language is as though this signing is pretty much nailed on. Add to that the letter from Dzeko to the club, which is something I believe they would have never released if they'd not sewn up a deal already.

Yeah, I'm certain that we'll get our man come January.

Re Torres, I think we'll sign him if we can. Not neccessarily at the expense of Dzeko but possibly in addition to him if we can get a buyer for Ade & RSC. There's no rule that says Tevez can't play some games out of the centre so we can easily rotate a few strikers if they're good enough. I just feel our manager & owner would love to have Torres at City if they could but this window may be his last chance. Personally I don't like him & I don't trust signings from Liverpool.

Torres would be 2 fold - the player and the shirt seller. As for not liking Livverpool buy's, we have only bought their cast-offs and even then it was once they'd shot their load somewhere else. Personally, I think he is getting back up to strength and is problem now is his future with the Dippers. No CL this season, nor next season by the look of it, and there is no real sign of them spending considerably to get them back where he feels he belongs. He'll be off and I think it'll be sooner rather than later, it's just where he's going to end up.

Big spending Manchester City have made a £7m move for Espanyol defender Victor Ruiz.

Ruiz, 21, is on City’s hit-list for January and Espanyol have confirmed they have had an approach for the Spanish under-21 centre half.

City are set to offer Ruiz a four-year deal after scouting him in recent weeks and a source at Espanyol said: “We may be close to an agreement.”
