60,000 is a necessity so we can compete numbers-wise with Arsenal and the Rags. Chelsea are still well ahead of us because they have had a good head start and have won a lot more in recent years: also, their Europa League win was yet another trophy while we managed fuck all. Chelsea, though, are hampered by an increasingly ordinary stadium with an uncompetitive capacity, and we need to expand to take advantage of that weakness. Liverpool continue to decline the chance to build somewhere half decent. Our location and our fortune in getting the Commonwealth Games continues to work in our favour.

I just hope the Etihad keeps its distinctive shape and doesn't turn into yet another big anonymous oval.

I'm sure I read somewhere that stage D is the addition of a cantilevered 4th tier all around, taking us up from 60,000 to mid-70s as the final stage of smashing the Evil Empire. But I can't see that being done without 10 years of sustained success.

We are at a disanvantage with matchday income as Chelsea get a whole lot more because of London prices, and I still cant fathom why Liverpool's is twice ours. However the Dippers' legendary world support got them £4M last year - like peeing in the wind!!

So my original question was about the 'arrogant bastards they are turning out to be' - who is 'they'? I assume you mean the Spaniards or were you trying to be sarcastic, which rarely works in text?

The ground expansion - yes, it's been going on for months, although I don't believe anyone had seen an artist's impression and they hadn't actually confirmed it was about to happen, something they need to do for the people who live nearby and could object.

And mainly, I come in a stadium thread and you're having a go at 'them'. Maybe if I'd read every other post in every other thread it'd have made sense, but that's not what this thread was about.

So try explaining it for those of us who apparently can't understand basic English.

Well that's one opinion and, as all opinions are valid, I'll put mine. From my perspective the latest news on the stadium expansion (the subject matter of the thread), what with its increased match-day income and reduced price season tickets, is great news for all fans.
To then go off on such a tangent that you see that as a ploy to deflect attention from our being taken over by rupert F murdock or tony F blair and to ramble on about our AD owners thinking WTF. . . . well that's a bit daft isn't it?
You have the choice to look upon the situation sensibly and in context with such occurrences in the football industry or you can throw logic aside, readily believe the worst of the negative press reports and lose yourself in a pantomime dame frenzy of a conspiracy theory.
For those choosing the latter path I can advise that our AD owners are in full control of the club and never think WTF, that rupert murdoch and tony blair are not involved and that wrapping your head in bacofoil will do nothing other than keep your bonce warm and make you look as mad as you are.

PS. I do appreciate that putting emotion ahead of common sense is a very human trait but we mostly stop doing that when our mothers slap us out of throwing tantrums at 2 yo. :-)

You're definitely right in that respect - they are doing the 'putting the good stories out' thing - but that doesn't mean that the stories aren't good stories about good things that we should celebrate.
I think I know what you mean re the RM departure - it wasn't a clean killing and I hate to see killing of any kind but that's what happens and football mangers know that they live beneath the sword of damacles - it's the knowledge that the reaper might swing the scythe that makes their balls tingle enough to do the job they do.
