Absolutely not. R.I.P.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?

There's some right sensitive little souls on here isn't there. He's an ex-player who has sadly passed away and the question being asked is whether he, as an exellent player that he was, would get into todays team. What's wrong with that? For me the answer would be yes, on his day he would walk into this team every time but like most players nowadays he would be rotated as & when the game suits.

Spot on. I haven't seen anyone be disrespectful. It was an honest question (and a pretty good one) that required quick, brief answers to gauge opinion. We've all payed our respects to Foe on numerous occasions and will continue to do so. This thread in itself is a testament to Foe's worth in that the author would consider him worthy of contention for a place in today's cracking squad. As usual, it only takes one person to express discomfort for the matter to snowball and evryone else to feel obliged to. Let's not get so mawkish that certain things are completely unutterable - we're not scousers.

I'd say he'd be the most likely of our recent 'greats'- Goater, Kinkladze, Bernarbia, Brannan, et al, with the possible exception of Anelka, who I wouldn't want here anyway, to fit in the current first [strike]XIV[/strike] [strike]XVI[/strike] XVIII. Were Bernarbia on a free, and at the age we signed him up at back then, I'd snap him up for the odd cameo, like we've done with Sylvinho.

Honestly, I think he'd have been sold before now. As to whether he'd be good enough I think he'd be just about on the edges of the team now.

Jesus lads, you need to get a grip of yourselves.

The OP was a hypothetical question that could be posed about any great ex player we've had. It is not remotely disrespectful (well apart from Edge's comment to Dazlebluefrog which was in appalling taste) nor is it in bad taste.

He passed away and it was a tragedy but that doesn't make discussion of his talent and attributes off limits.

In answer to the question, I think he could do the same kind of job that Vincent Kompany will be doing over the next season or two. Likely not to be a first team regular but still a massively important cog in the squad.

Who knows hey. We will never see him play again but his career with us will stay in our heads.

Well, he'd be 34 now. But if he'd have carried on as he did in our first season in the Prem then maybe we wouldn't have had a poor couple of years.

Remember that season. We finished in the top 10 and qualified for Europe (albeit through the fair play business),and we took four points from some team from Trafford. The team included MVF, Berkovic and last hurrahs from Ali and the Goat. It was a good year and we were on the up.

Had Marc and Berko stayed and, of course, carried on playing as they did that season, we might not have suffered the subsequent torpor.

Let's face it, it all went a bit Pete Tong after that.

And, I don't think it's a disrespectful thread. I've just been thinking back to his time with us with a smile on my face. Which isn't a bad way to be remembered.
