Just trying to sort out a nice hotel to treat the GF ........ or maybe a cheap one to treat my wallet, we'll see!

Nice looking one sorted, Sherraton nr the center, miles from the stadium but oh well!

Shall we arrange a pre match (better still post match, so we'll be well behaved during the match !!!) get together/drinking session. The bar at the Sheraton will do since you're staying there.

irblinx and everyone, I suppose you should be aware by now anyway, but the game is at Al-Jazira stadium (Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium) which is almost city centred, unlike what I said on earlier threads, about the game being played at the National Stadium..

Funny one this.....it's not an offence here but it is massively frowned upon to hold hands with a girl in public

Although for two guys to walk arm in arm there appears to be no problem...most odd

It's also illegal to have a woman (who is not your wife) in your house with you alone and you are at risk of being grassed to the fuzz if someone (namely the caretaker of your apartment block) sees you.

Fortunately the application of financial grease to the wheels of that caretaking machine seems to make the building guardian partially sighted

apologies dude, had a bit of a calamity on the way to AD, left my iPhone (along with a camera) in the taxi and so had no way to get online to see if anyone was up for a meet. Bit gutted really.

Hoping to find out tomorrow morning before we fly whether the phone got handed in (mix up between the hotel in Dubai and the taxi firm meant they a camera and phone they have found didn't get identified and therefore have no idea if its mine yet.

Even worse news after the match, couldn't get a taxi so jumped on a bus, went four stops and then someone from the back of the bus (all locals except me and the GF) reported a stolen wallet to the driver. We waited over half an hour for the Police to turn up and were then bussed to the Police station to be searched. They were very apologetic to the poor tourists caught up in it to be fair but it was still gone 1am by the time we reached the hotel!!!

We laughed about our luck both at the time and afterwards and it hasn't put us off wanting to go back.

Excellent result with the phone and camera, the taxi company's Lost & Found office came up trumps this morning, just need to tell O2 to uncancel my SIM now :o)

In fact the worst experience of the entire trip is right now, sat at the departure gate at DXB now and Ryan Giggs has just walked in, they'll let bloody anybody in!
