I don't know exactly what there problem is as a whole, although I'd be willing to bet the losses of Arbolea, and definitely Alonso have caused their midfield to be incohesive. Actually, their midfield tonight against Lyon was attrocious; if their jerseys didn't say Liverpool, I'd swear I was watching a second-division game in some tiny european country. How many inaccurate passes did they have, due to miscommunication or downright stupidity?
Anyway, my point is that even Gerrard and Torres cannot save this team from a finish outside of the top 4. There simply isn't the depth, especially at midfield, for them to succeed. Their second best midfielder is Benayoun.. what does that tell you? Not saying he is bad.. but c'mon..
totally agree, however, I thought exactly the same before last season began and thought they were the most obvious ones to drop out of the top 4 but they played amazingly well last year. Probably due to Alonso and gerrard having great seasons, and a massive slice of luck with them scoring winners in injury time in many games.
I would love Arse and Liverpool to finish outside the top 4 this year, it would be a massive shake up for the premier league.
