Whilst doing some research into City's history, I stumbled on something that nobody seems to have previously noticed nor noted, regarding the historic City of Manchester boundary changes and local football clubs.
Until 1890, both areas of West Gorton and Newton Heath were OUTSIDE the Manchester boundary.
Despite the argument used by the rags that they were originally founded in Newton Heath and therefore had their origins in Manchester...THIS IS UNTRUE. The rags only played within the manchester boundary from 1890. They left Manchester and moved OUTSIDE the City boundary in 1910.
In total, in their 131 year history, they have only played within manchester for 20 years 1890-1910.
City also were founded outside the City of Manchester boundary. City 1st played within Manchester in 1887, when they moved to the Hyde Road ground in Ardwick. Ardwick had been within the City boundary since 1838.
In total in our 129 year history, we have remained in Manchester for 122 years.
I KNOW THAT YOU BELIEVE THAT YOU UNDERSTOOD WHAT YOU THINK I WROTE, BUT I AM NOT SURE YOU REALISE THAT WHAT YOU READ IS NOT WHAT I MEANT
