i can't think of anyone we've paid anything close to market value around since the takeover. The surcharge feels like about a 100% uplift on actual player value on average.
cheers
I'd say Adam Johnson was cheap at the price, and fair market value.

good shout...i forgot about the Jinky. What a bargain really. Beyond him? Barry? well, he was in the last year of his contract but you could make an argument that 12M for him was reasonable.
My point still stands.

Vinny was excellent value, Zabba wasn't bad.
Both bought before the money came in.

Weiss flattered by Toon interest
Manchester City winger Vladimir Weiss would be flattered by reported interest from Newcastle, according to his agent Juraj Venglos.
The St James' Park have been linked with move for the 20-year-old Slovakia international, who has helped his side reach the last 16 of the World Cup in South Africa.
In January, Weiss joined Bolton on loan, making 13 appearances and contributed to Owen Coyle's side avoiding relegation from the top flight.
Venglos told TASR: "Vladimir would surely be flattered by the chance to play regularly at a club as big as Newcastle United.
"I know of Newcastle's interest only from the media. In any case, Vladmimir naturally wants to play at a good club, but he will have to make a decision himself.
"Whether there is any truth in it or not, one thing is for sure - any possible negotiations will begin only after the World Cup."
Weiss moved to Manchester City in 2006 and proved to be an instant hit at Eastlands, winning the FA Youth Cup in 2007.
The youngster had to wait until 2009 before scoring his first senior goal against Arsenal in the Carling Cup.
In the same year, the promising Slovakian signed a new contract at City, keeping him at the club until 2012.

Not quite though.
I thought it was accepted now that the Sheik funded those August transfers.
Someone external must have funded the transfers because Frank's pot was empty after spunking it on Jo and I doubt Wardle had a spare £20m just "lying around" for the 3 signings after he had covered the club's costs that month. Either the new owners funded it, or provided Frank with guarantees to cover the cost of the players.

What you've written is bullshit, and here's why.
Whether the money came from Wardle or Frank or ADU, it doesn't matter because at the time we transferred Kompany and Zabs, the rest of the footballing world didn't know we had oodles of cash. As they didn't know, then there wasn't a City surcharge like every other transfer(with the exception of Jinky and who knows how much we end up paying for him, £1M for an England cap, etc). So even if the Sheikh wrote a personal cheque for Kompany, until the 1st September when it was announced to the world, transfers like Lescott and RSC wouldn't have happened.

I'd say you stated you couldn't think of a single player - with Johnson, Barry, Given and Tevez there's four for you.
Your point stands on certain player values, but hardly on across the board.

Silva would be a fantastic signing equally YaYa would be immense.
If we get these two then it really improves our 1st team greatly.

wrong. we're getting mugged in the marketplace dude. Fess up. It's not your fault, is it?
Tevez -- no one would have paid what we did. He seems worth it now cuz he's performed. Given, same for him. No one else was in for Given. Barry was out of contract basically...12M for him or nothing the next year. Get it? Villa had to cash in. He hasn't exactly taken the world by storm for 12M, has he?
Johnson ill give you. he was a steal at his price point.
You can find two at a stretch if you include Given, but the premise of my point still stands. We're getting mugged in the marketplace, and i don't think we can stop it...it is what it is for a few windows. Until we don't really NEED to buy this is how it will be. Get comfy with it. I am.

Oh Im comfy with it, I just dont agree with you. Barry was a steal and others - Spurs, Liverpool to name 2 - would have easily paid that for him; Redknapp admitted it but couldnt match our wages, whilst Liverpool ended up paying £18m for Aquilani.
We are paying over the odds for some players, agreed and trust me I personally am not bothered one bit as its an advantage we have, but to suggest that its happened completely across the board I dont agree with.
Cheers

I do agree that silva is over-rated
10 million + RSC would be a fair price

you are not entirely wrong although 10m would not get his left sock. I'm slightly worried who he'd cope with physical nature of the game. He has pace and skill in abundance but he will not defend anymore than Petrov. If we buy him, we need to play him on the wing at least for the first few seasons.
Sometimes we're good and sometimes we're bad but when we're good, at least we're much better than we used to be and when we are bad we're just as bad as we always used to be, so that's got to be good hasn't it?
