There I was idly watching the tv whilst round at the in-laws and the North East news was on. Pictures were shown of Newcastle's first pre-season training session under their new manager and who should appear in a tracksuit...Paul Simpson. Must have missed him moving, to be honest I hadn't realised he must have been at Derby.

Gordon Smith.

From a slightly earlier timescale, I also used to quite like Dragoslav Stepanovic although his 'career' with us was somewhat disappointing. Perhaps it was his exotic name which appealed.

Micheal Robinson or Trevor Francis scored goals and had a great way of allowing the fans to join in. Clive Wilson very classy player.

Steve McKenzie, still one of the best City goals in the FA cup at Wembley.

Darius Vassell. Loved his work rate and I remember we never lost a game where he had scored.

Edghill was a fine servant for the club and got a load of stick from the fans towards the end - it was pretty normal to hear players from both sides being slagged off to the mirth of the crowd, but with Edghill it just wasn't funny anymore and it really got to him.

Sheron and whitey haven't been mentioned - two crowd favorites - not really forgotten. One of my favourite players was Hendry, who was only with us a short time, but was a decent player who went back to moneybags Blackburn who bought the title!

I remember they got knocked out to some no-mark swedish club, trelleborgs in europe - I was actually looking forward to the game as I thought Blackburn would pan them, but they beat them at Ewood park!

Bumped into Edgey on a night out a few months back in Manchester. Usually wouldn't have said anything but he was right in front of me and i'd had a beer. Had no problem in chatting (or at least hid it well) and you could tell how much he loves the club. Glad he's got an ambassador role at the club. Should probably read his book.

Back on topic - i have no idea why but i used to like Carlo Nash.
