Anyone know this pond life?
Dear Sirs,
I am writing to complain about the experience I had during the Chelsea home league match on February 3rd. I filled in a complaints form on the night and returned to one of the senior stewards but feel it is appropriate to follow up by e-mail and understand what the club is doing to address my concerns.
I purchased my ticket via Viagogo - details below
Transaction ID: 3921507 -Colin Bell stand 222, Row G, Seat 610
I sat down pre match and enjoyed some good banter with the lady next to me who was obviously a season ticket holder at the ground with her teenage son. I learned that my seat was usually used by an out of town season ticket holder. We chatted during the match and enjoyed a friendly dialogue.
Half way through the second half the individual sat two rows in front of me directly ahead (I assume Row E same seat number) jumped up and started to hurl a torrent of four letter words and abuse at me telling me repeatedly to shut up. I was aghast at this and was at a loss to understand the reasons for his behaviour. I repeatedly asked him what had caused his outburst and he refused to engage other than to continue his verbal assault which had become heated and aggressive. Fellow fans and a steward intervened to get him to sit down. I leaned forward to him to suggest we as "fellow blues" shouldn't be arguing and offered my hand of friendship which he refused. I went on to suggest his behaviour was shameful given the young boy that was accompanying him (it was unclear whether this was his son or grandson) - this appeared to further provoke his anger and resulted in clear threats of violence (he threatened to "do me" and "knock my block off"). Once again the steward close by had to intervene to calm him down.
I have followed City for 40 years and have never ever been abused by a fellow City supporter. I was shocked and upset having made the journey up from near London that day to receive such unprovoked aggression and I spent the rest of the half stunned and aggrieved that this mindless idiot could so thoroughly ruin my evening.
Later as the match drew to a close I felt the need to ask him what had caused his repeated aggressive verbal attacks and threats of violence to which I didn't receive a satisfactory response. Indeed both he and the tall well built man next to him (to his right) both offered to take me outside and "give me a good kicking". I once again pointed out the shameless nature of this threatening and aggressive behaviour to both of them in the presence of children - some of which were in their charge.
By this time I had had enough and asked the steward to reseat me away from theses threats of violence which had begun to make me concerned for my own safety particularly post match if these two individuals' threats were to be taken seriously.
The steward helpfully took me away from the scene and I engaged with a senior steward post match to fill in a form attempting to detail my complaint. You can understand this was difficult to articulate in the heat of the moment and therefore I have felt it appropriate to follow up with this mail.
In response I would like the club to detail the following:-
- What sanctions the two individuals who threatened violence to me will be subject to?
- If I believe the club has not taken seriously my complaint I reserve the right to take up with GMP directly - I am sure the CCTV will attest to the unprovoked nature of this verbal assault.
- How the club will ensure that someone like me who purchased an (expensive) ticket through Viagogo won't be subject to the same threatening and disgusting behaviour?
In summary it has taken me a couple of weeks to gather my thoughts and make this complaint - so upset have I been.
I would like to think the club take my narrative seriously and will give me the satisfaction of an appropriate response.
