Just another commercial football club....

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

Just another commercial football club....

Postby Arjan Van Schotte » Mon Jan 28, 2013 7:36 pm

Following on from my annoyance about the "platinum" scheme (in which you give the club money to jump the queue for tickets), and the chinese "fans" at the "sold out to members" away game at Norwich (i asked one of them, they'd bought the tickets from an agency for £150 each including transport from London), i've just received an email from the etihad airmiles programme offering to swap some of my airmiles for tickets to the "sold out to members" game against liverpool.

The price of success, and money? Does anyone care?

I don't personally, for the simple reason that it's what the Premier League is all about .

Football as I know it died years ago & was replaced by this. We have the choice of taking part or spewing it. I choose to join in for now, but may be priced out.

and if/when you are, will you miss it? will you complain about it?

I'm quite impressed with some of the "cheap" tickets for games such as watford and wigan, but this is a very slippery slope we're on.

the atmosphere seems to get worse by the game, i know soooo many people who were regulars at games, who have given up in favour of their tv packages, and i know of a fair few rags/arsenal supporters who simply renew their season tickets and then whore them out each home game, so that they can get to the odd high profile away, and the odd cup final. it's awful.

Moments like the last day of last season are lifelong highs but a typical 'matchday experience', imo, is marginally more exciting than watching it on tv; the actuall football is better than the atmos. If we get some standing areas however, that could change drastically & it could become special again.

I don't miss many (home) games, but when I do, I don't miss it much (ifyknowwhatimean). 30 years ago, missing a City game felt like someone else was shagging my girlfriend.

At this rate we'll have to re-run the article on the official site for fans new to Man City - or was that just a cookism?

It's the sad state of modern football there is only one way out and that is for the club and other teams to soak it up and give large sections of the ground to cheaper tickets and bring back standing.

But the atmosphere hasnt gone down solely because of the price naturally being shit you stick together more and fight more you tend to be more tight knit you know siege mentality and have more fun now many expect a win at home and just wait to be entertained.

The atmosphere was great at Maine Road, and that was without standing.

I think people care, but bend over and take it. Or quietly have to go to less games. You want to win trophies then you need to get money. It's like your girlfriend getting a boob job but then everyone else gets to bang her.

Funnily enough I received exactly the same email from Emirates today, trade in my airmiles for tickets to AC Milan or Arsenal and others.

Here ends my contribution to this thread.

It cost 50 quid for my match day ticket against liverpool this sunday. Although it is a home game, it is still ridiculously expensive and not far off the 62 away. although I guess we do not have to travel.
Still here.

I don't think that it's only football what went broken/worse in the last half century, isn't it?

As per Arjan, I think You should come to term with whether You prefer to support Your beloved Club, featuring the likes of Dave & Yaya and doing it in financial self- sustainability (which is the main goal for everyone who loves his Club above all, personal flights of fancy included) or if You prefer to stand tall with Your maiden purism and support a MCFC in shape of Crewe Alexandra.
Other then that is just sanctimonious shite, and certainly the s.c. glory-hunting tourists, from Home and Abroad, have little to do with the changes which have affected the modern western societies.

1. "unintelligible language"
2. "ACID QUEEN"
3. "never once fails to turn a football thread into a himseelf thread"
4. "thumbs stalker often resulting in repetitive thumb strain"
5. ignore the cunt. he's on permantent wum mission. only TIDs may know City

You'd need to make a very good psychiatrist in order to guess what next in a eight yrs long line of hatred...

In Roger Ailes/Donnie Drumpf's words: "don't know it for a fact, but many people say so..."
there must be some truth, then!

It's never been the same since we moved to the Etihad. I was in my teens while we were at Maine Road, and I remember enough to know that it was just really, really entertaining and very fucking loud. It's like moving into a new home I guess..its nice and all, but it just doesn't have the same memories. It's so pristine, so shiny and so expensive looking that you can't help but be on your best behaviour. Put even the loudest of creatures in a fancy restaurant and most of them will end up shutting up, to an extent. It's happened to the fans... the old home comforts of Maine Road just aren't there, and there was definitely a feeling of 'we're guests at this place' when we initially moved to it, and that feeling has never really faded away. People kind of just sat and gazed in wonder at the wide opened excellence of it all. Felt rather formal, and not up close, a bit grotty and ultimately it just didn't feel like it was ours...time has passed a bit now, and I guess after everything we're used to it, and it is home, but it just doesn't incite the same passion sadly. All the fans have been separated, new routines have been set in place, and all that tribalism that practically seeped through the cracks of Maine Road has just not found its way over to the new gaff. It's a shame.
