Went to the game yesterday and coming on here after was quite frankly shocked by the vitriol towards Shauny Wright. Amazing how people view games differently, but I genuinely believed he was one of our best players. I was in with the Birmingham fans unfortunately (freebie tickets!) and literally every time he got the ball they shat it - "don't let Wright Phillips have it", "fuck me, something happens every time he gets the ball", "he's fucking rapid", "I'd kill to have him in our side" were just a selection of the comments from around me. Yes his end product wasn't great but think it was a one off and not helped by some woeful runs in the box from Santa Cruz and Tevez. At least he was getting in positions to attempt to deliver into the box, unlike Bellamy on the other side who was poor.

Lescott at the back was, and is, our biggest concern - he reminds me of Distin when he was toss - he runs like he's treading on egg shells and I find myself looking away when the ball comes his way. Onuoha, Toure and Kompany should all be ahead of him in my opinion.

Anyway, yes we were poor, but we're fourth with a game on the top two. And we're not losing these games which is an improvement.

Me too mate, thought his end product was pants, but his willingness to make the runs and take the ball was a highlight. He gets kicked so much it's madness, I thought he would be the most fouled player in the premier league but actually saw the other day it was Gareth Barry.

He needs better movement ahead of him and enough with Bellamy on the left wing.

Doug, who exactly did he have to aim at? Without Robbie and Ade who along with Shaun are the most effective at dragging players away and creating openings, he had a bunch of grafters who managed to bunch up Birmingham's defence at every opportunity...oh and Roque Santa Cruz.

I can't understand the stick SWP is getting.
Besides Tevez I would like to hear of peòple who they think played better in the outfield than these two.
In quite a few instances the passing between the two of them was the most creative thing going on on the pitch and although SWP attempts to dribble past a couple of defenders didnt come of all the time (which personally,I dont think you should expect someone to be successful more than once or twice in a match)(we have been spoiled watching Robson on the other side of the pitch doing it easily)he kept on trying and to me was the most dangerous player we had out there.

While I agree with you, I think Bridge was our best outfield player yesterday.

I dont get all the abuse he seems to be getting. SWP never hides and always put a shift in. Things may go wrong at times for him but i feel thats becasue he brave enough to have a go. What do some people want him to do pass sideways everytime.

I may be wrong but does some of this abuse boil down to the "new fan brigade" who all like the so called big players at City who cost lots of money and want to dismiss the old guard. Do the people that abuse him actually go to games??

I love SWP and feel the critism is unjust and there are fair worse culprits at the moment......!!

The shit some people are throwing at SWP is just utter ridiculous. Best outfield player for me yesterday and Barry with De Jong were the worst imo.

The upcoming game against Burnley is going to say a lot more to me than any other game this season so far.

We've had a great start to the season and got off to a flyer and exceeded most peoples expectations with some great results and even better football. We have hit a little bit of poor form for the first time this season and it will be very very interesting to see how we handle it. We have drawn games against clubs we think we should have beaten but they were our 'bogey' teams (Wigan & Fulham) and another draw was against a challenger for a top four spot (Villa) we have now drawn against a team who will be relegation fodder, yes it was a bad result and a bad performance but I can handle one bad game and a couple of mediocre performances but i will be very concerned if we do not beat Burnley comfortably this weekend.
We have wasted a couple of opportunities to cement a top four spot but we can get things back on track in the next 3 games.

Fulham was a fuck up, whereas yesterday was just shite in general. We should be better with Robinho, Ade and Toure in the team I think.

i thought shaun has been poor for stretches during the season so far, but i thought he was one of the few bright spots yesterday - i could see people harping on him before, but he was our best midfielder yesterday.

really thought we were missing ireland in the first 60 minutes - lack of creativity and the final pass and all that.

SWP problem isn't his runs most of the time its the end of them 90% of the time he will fluff it up. I think Hughes should get somebody to run beside him just so he can do his amazing runs and then he can pass it off to somebody who can do something with it. Shauny is one of my fave players in the team and probably always will be his spirit and determination are incredible. However sometimes he does try to run through 3 players on his own and don't get me wrong he sometimes pulls it off but it's a cheap way to lose the ball and you know it. Stop the flash Shaun do your amazing runs up the wing and pass to somebody who can do something.

Shaun does not have the magic he used to have in his first stint here. before he would get the ball and the entire place would lift, now nothing changes. he will beat one or maybe 2 players and that's it, the QUALITY of football he is producing is poor but his effort as always is huge, yesterday i lost count of the times he never made it past the players he was trying to beat and when he did the cross was poor. I am not singling him out by the way, (its a thread about him!) and it isn't his fault we didn't win yesterday, but he is partly to blame. (I hope i covered all angles so i don't get blasted by a load of unwarranted out of context shite)

I think SWP is having a little dip in form and confidence, one thing you can't say against him is that he doesnt stop trying and he grafts - as the game progresses he often starts to get more space - never been a prolific crosser of the ball but offers much more besides.

But maybe there's a couple of factors contributing to this ....

- When we're playing two holding midfielders (and not playing Stevie Ireland) the opposition can double up on a couple of our more attacking/creating players restricting thier affeciveness. Same can be said when not playing Robson - SWP had more space when we had Robson & Ireland on the pitch together along with him.
- If there's a lack of understaning with the fullback or the fullback is told not to venture forward too much will make it so easy for the Opo to crowed him out.

Quie agree with you gingery, I didn't get to Brum because of work, but saw the game on a stream. I thought he had a really impressive performance, even though I also think his form's a bit off at the moment. The amount of work he gets through is really amazing and his willingness to get stuck in and not give up is second to none, as is his willingness to track back and help out at the back, in fact I think he probably saved us a point by doing so. End product up front wasn't quite there yesterday, but then again, nor was anyone elses.

Swp has the skill and pace to get past defenders but he doesnt seem to want to do it. Every time i see him touch the ball i just want him to storm down that flank and put in a decent ball but it seems to me that he doesnt want to do it!! I want him to concentrate in training a bit more on putting in those crosses that will trouble defenders!!
