Team for Villa

Postby eastlandsblue » Fri Oct 02, 2009 2:20 pm

I dont normally get involved with starting threads, just like to had the odd contribution. But this is probably going to a bit of an headache for Hughes himself, and for many of us fans who will have plenty of different formations.

My team has to be based on current form, and rightly so in imo, but others will have their fav players.

My starting 11

.............................................................Given................................................................

Zabba.......................Toure....................................................Lescott...........................Bridge

..............................De.Jong.................................................Barry.....................................

Bellamy...................................................Teves.........................................................Petrov

..........................................................Adebayor..............................................................

I'd be happy with that line up.

I would normally opt for SWP on the right and Bellamy on the left to make sure they do their defensive duties on both wings, but given SWP's below par performances recently and Petrov's current great form, I think this is the best option for Monday.

Obviously attack is the best means of defence after all !!!!!

I'd bring Ade in for Petrov and leave it at that. I think Petrov played really well against WHU but away from home Bellers will patrol the left and SWP the right. Tevez & Ade through the middle.

Although SWP hasn't been great going forward, his overall work rate and tackling back will be as important as his forward play on Monday. I think we'll need his defensive qualities as Mad Zab will be up against Milner and Warnock I think. Milner is a good player and I thought Warnock looked good when we played Blackburn.

Ade will just slot into the team. He will start, There are no doubs about that. Monday will be a tough game but we should beat them though. We have missed Ade! We have been putting balls in the box and noone has been on the end of them. Well now with Ade's height. He can just pop them in and villa's defence isnt exactly the tallest or the best defensive lineup.

I'll go with that. The only reason I'd keep SWP in is his defensive work rate. Petrov is not great defensively and especially away from home. Of course he'll be great coming off the bench if we need him.

As was said earlier this is where Hughes starts to earn his money. It is up to him to put the right 11 out and importantly if things are not going right to make correct changes to ensure we get a positIve result, ideally a win.

I was surprised at Blackburn to see how attacking Hughes was - no De Jong! Is this just down to having better quality players? For Villa I think he will keep with De Jong, how could he be dropped!

IMO team for Villa-

Given
Zabaleta Toure Lescott Bridge
Ireland De Jong Barry Bellamy
Tevez Adebayor

SWP's form has been disappointing recently and if Ireland is fit then I can see him replacing SWP.

Another good challenge, likely to be a few goals and IMO opinion a match we can win. Go 6 points clear of Villa when we win.

I agree 100% with the team, 2 England internationals on the bench, 3 in the team, who'd have thought it.....

I think Petrov has earned his place. He was my MOTM against West Ham.
I think he deserves a chance to show he can do the same away from home.

I suppose my team would be this..............

-----------------Given--------------------

Zabbs----Toure-----Lescott-----Bridge

-----------De Jong-----Barry------------

Tevez-----------Bellamy---------Petrov

-----------------Adebayor---------------
Has the world gone mad, ..............or is it me?

Whilst not disagreeing in the common sense of the OP, I think there is no way on this earth he will suddenly drop SWP and switch Bellamy, recently so brilliant on the left, over to the right. To me the only question is whether he keeps Petrov or Bellamy on the left - it would be sensible to rest Craig's knee (Wales have 2 games coming up) yet not sure about Petrov in away games with his defensive duties and lack of ball retention. That is the dilemma.

Well, apart from the Ireland/Tevez dilemma of course! We're just not used to this are we??????

Everyone seems pretty much agreed on the back four, deJong, Barry along with Ade and Tevez. Therefore only two positions to wrangle over. Bellers is a first choice for me while he's fit.

- Given

-Zabba Toure Lescott Bridge

- de Jong Barry

- Tevez Ireland Bellers

- Ade
