The atmosphere last night compared to European fans was not even comparable. We are like a stadium full of geriatrics and middle class prawn sandwich eaters in comparison.

Maybne that's what happens if a lot of the grass roots fans are priced out of it.

Could be truth in what you both say.
I think for a truly great atmosphere you need a fanbase that has a large 18-30 year age group.
City may be missing out on a lot more of that age group than they could have had except for that other crowd down the road being successful for so long.

I don't know. I don't live in Manchester, so I could be talking shite. I was in the Colin Bell stand once and I felt out of place roaring and shouting. The crowd did seem older and reserved. Most other games I've been in the family stand and a lot of really young kids can be there.
This is the next generation. Future may be bright but, what you want is a load of lads that meet up at the same pub before the game. Then sit in the same spot together to start things off and get things going around them.
When there were terraces it was easier getting to stand beside friends.
I think the suggestions by some of rearranging the seating in the south stand so that the crowd isn't split by the away fans is sensible.
Then concentrate your noisiest most passionate age group into one solid bank behind the goal.
I do think it can be hard to evolve from a solid base with gallows humour into a crew that will become a twelfth man in a successful team, whether they are winning or losing.

Regarding the match the other night. I thought the atmosphere came across well on the Irish station I watched. But I do think teams in Europe that are probably more used to getting that far, create a wall of noise. You need 10 thousand or so in a bank that are willing to do that.

Nervy game last night loads at stake and new territory for the club players and fans ,PSG were nervy as fuck aswell .........all in all atmosphere was good . BT and the rest of cunts covering our games just cant get over Bluemoon being belted out instead of the shit that used to sung way back in time at the swamp and clanfield ;-)

Agree with that also and you need our own anthem sung as much as possible, to the point of repetition. Especially when the action gets tame or the tempo drops. A loud chorus of a favourite anthem lifts the tempo on the field quite often.
This is what they mean when they talk of a twelfth man.
You can't be too cool for school about it.
If you have the attitude that these overpaid spoilt brats should be doing it whether you sing or not then you're missing the point in my opinion of being a supporter.
You may just follow City or you may be a fan. But if you want to be a supporter you support. The club and team is bigger than the 11 on the field. That's what my experience is. But I'm from Dublin and get to a couple of games a year if I'm lucky, so like I've said earlier, I could just be talking shite.
My twenties was a time when I followed the Irish team and most of my observations on atmosphere are drawn from then so take it anyway you like.

Said it years ago eamonn...
City need to rob the dubs tune from the GAA.

"Come on, you boys in blue, come on you boys in blue..."

A loop that gets louder and can be sang for ages.

I'll make that bitch catch on before I die, I swear to God!

The stadium would be rocking.

Always worked as C'mon he boys in Green also. It's that point where it reaches a crescendo on the high note and then more and more sections join in the next round and it just gets louder and louder.
In Lansdowne we used to have all four sides of the ground going by the end and it was deafening.
Would love to hear it at the Etihad.
You need something simple like that in a loop as you say, getting louder and louder.
It compels everyone to join in because they get swept along by the increasing atmosphere and volume.

Like every other chant, it's simple and builds into a crescendos.

One day I'll hear it on tv at a city game and I'll know it's a game changer.

Hmmmmm! Last night was the best atmosphere of the season. Doesn't say much for those that are usually there, but weren't last night.

Maybe it could have been even better if the everyday fans could have gone in numbers. (And a quarter final atmosphere isn't directly comparable with a league game atmosphere unless there's a league title riding on just one match).
