While you're around, or in case you nip back to this thread, can I remind you about my query regarding the official founding date of our club. You said you'd look into it but as yet Ive had nothind back.

To remind you, Throughout the 50s and 60s, and possibly before that time, the club always regarded our foundind date to be 1880. Sometime during the late 70s, this date mysteriously became changed to 1894.

There is and always has been sufficient evidence to link our present club with St Mark's (West Gorton), West Gorton. Gorton and Ardwick. The major problem seems to be the change of Ardwick AFC to Manchester City FC but again evidence exists regarding the actions of Mr Joshua Parlby, Mr Furniss and other members of the Ardwick club and their links between the old and new club.
Please can you find out why City ignore these missing 14 years, which are a rich, important and integral part of our early formative history, of which the club should be extremely proud.
Can you also advise the best course of action to get the club to reinstate them.

Hi John,

Thanks for the nudge. I'm well aware of your enquiry regarding the 'lost 14 years' however from my position, there's not much scope for me to push this further despite its obvious importance to yourself and other fans.

It's maybe something that you should email directly into the club mcfc@mcfc.co.uk as you did with myself an enroll the help of Gary James to create something to present to the club and/or maybe bring up at the next Points of Blue meeting? Our heritage department would also be very interested in this I imagine too tours@mcfc.co.uk

Hope this helps a bit mate - please give me a shout (you have my contact details) for anything else.

Kind regards

Chris

Thanks for your reply Chris,

Is there anyone specific at the club who I would be better to address an email to in the 1st instance?
I have already attempted to contact Gary james via his publisher some time ago but never recieved any acknowledgment or reply.
I was not aware of a "Heritage Department" at the club, who within that dept should I contact?

I understand that it may be beneficial to put some sort of dossier or suchlike and will get my arse into gear to sort that. With or without Gary's help.

Thank you for your respnse.

The answer?

1880
St Mark’s Church forms a football team which would later evolve into MCFC.

1884
The first known ‘City shirt’ is created – in black, with a Maltese-style cross. Some say this is because of the club’s strong links with Freemasonry in the 1880s, others believe the white cross proves the link with St Mark’s was still strong.

1887
St Mark’s team evolves into Ardwick AFC and moves to Hyde Road.

1889
An explosion at the nearby Hyde Road coal mine results in the death of 23 miners – Ardwick and Newton Heath play a friendly match under floodlights in aid of the disaster fund.

1892
The second division of the English Football League is created, with Ardwick AFC as founder members.

1894
Ardwick AFC reforms as Manchester City Football Club, in a bid to represent the whole city.

1889
City finish champions of Division Two, becoming the first team to gain automatic promotion.
