Distin left us for the mighty Portsmouth because, in his own words, City 'lacked ambition'.

I bet he felt a right fool later, but as far as I'm concerned he can fuck right off.

He won an FA Cup, so it was justified.

Really? At the time we had a shite squad, he left and won the FA CUP the next season therefore justifying his decision. At the time Pompey were a better side than us. How was he to forsee the takeover?

Hence his words, 'I bet he felt a right fool LATER'.

Distin was still in his 20s at the time, and City's mid-term prospects were always better than Portsmouth's.

A classy centre half that I always e joyed watching. Very underrated and I feel wasted potential as he really was top notch on his day.

Lee_Kinda's clue gave it away. Upon reading it, a picture of Emile Heskey was the first thing that flashed through my mind. I think it's a universal mechanism.
