Tonights Game. and things

Postby Kippax » Thu Nov 12, 2009 8:11 pm

Firstly can I just say that I cannot agree with another posters assessment of how much of an embarrassment the result must have been. This game was never billed as a high profile match here, and like many have pointed out it was in effect out Junior reserves against the United Arab Emirates national side, who I am led to believe were pretty much at full strength-ish, although in all honesty I haven't got a clue as to how strong the side was. Admittedly we didn't play particularly well until the latter stages, but I would hardly class it as an embarrassment.

good turn out from the Blues traveling support am led to believe that the club estimate that about 300 /350 travelled from the UK, which when you consider that this was a pretty meaningless friendly shows you how good the supporters are, not many whingers here, I can tell you, and probably another 50 Blues from local areas and perhaps a further 100 or so ex pats who just came along for the ride, we had plenty of local support. The fixture was supposed to have been sold out of the 26 000 tickets that had been put on sale, but I would be very surprised if there were more than 18000 present.Never ceases to amaze me how City fans manage to get into areas that they probably should not be in. I was being escorted through a restricted area when I bumped into two City fans going in the opposite direction with schoolboy grins and knowing looks on their faces. Great, I Love it.

Have only been here for a very brief time but have to say that, as with all our recent escapades, we have been met with nothing but friendliness and warmth from our hosts, in terms of club officials, stewards and Police and indeed all the locals. Not sure how true it is, but there seems to be a feeling that this could become a regular event. I for one hope so, because I just love big family trips like this.

Just a couple of footnotes, There is a delegation from Manchester City council that have traveled with the club led by Howard Bernstein (Big Cheer) to try and forge links and drum up business with this part of the world and I'm not sure if it was part of this but Tony Blair stopped by today for a meeting with Sheikh Monsour. These guys though have had quite a busy time flitting from meeting to meeting always dressed in business suits, so lets hope they can do some wothwhile trade/business with the guys in Abu Dhabi, that may well boost the economy and possibly jobs back in Manchester. Fingers crossed.

And just to end on speculation or not as the case may be. and a personal view regarding Robinho. The general feeling is that he will not move before next summer and that he is genuinely happy at the club but there are other forces that may try to engineer a move away for personal benefit, lets just hope that if he continues to improve his all round game that he is strong enough to resist the pressure that may be heaped on him.

Got to go now ladies and gents, I'm knackered and have an early flight back to heathrow where more business meetings await, oh joy. but I'm sure that as soon as I sign off I'll remember something else that I wanted to say..

Hey Kippax thanks!

I couldnt get to see the game due to work and stuff but I have much moire faith in you reporting it as it was than some of the fools that have been keeping WW busy today.

Again - Thanks - and lets with the Manchester Council guys and Tony Blair over as well this can only be a great thing for our Beloved CITY in more ways than just our club!

I love our owner and I love City and I love Manchester ...

He certainly gets around and is an "uncle travelling Mac" but it also sounds like he works his ass off and has little time for that thing called sleep. No wonder he is tea total, he cannot fit in the time to sink a few nelsons or Vin Rouge.

I particularly liked the Our Country versus Our City billing, lets hope we can take more than one first team regular next time and give them a show.

Apart from a couple of downers on the trip (don't get me started on the trip back from the match to central AD!!!!) we've been met with nothing but friendliness and helpfulness in both Dubai and Abu Dhabi, I would highly recommend a visit to anyone who hasn't been before.

Thanks for all our kind words people. I try my best Lol.

I've been a bit disappointed that I haven't managed to spend as much time mingling with fellow supporters this trip, but pressures of business have conspired against me. If I hadn't managed to arrange some business meetings in the area, my time would have been even more restricted. I'm not actually doing any business in the area but managed to persuade clients from Europe and the Far East (Tokyo) to travel for meetings in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi. Luckily they all agreed as they understand my passion for following City, well they didn't really have a choice they either agreed or the job didn't get done. :)

Lahad- You would like to be able to follow The Club as I do mate, but don't think you would like my job.Since Monday I've had about 14 hours sleep and NO Alcohol Lol

Irblink- Yea! got to agree with you mate The Our Country V Our City was a masterstroke in advertising, and I should clarify that this fixture was heavily advertised and billed but there was never any pretense that we were going to field a team full of stars.

Dubaimancityfan.- Sincerest apologies mate, by the time I picked up your message, my afternoon was in full swing, and I was unable to change anything, meant to call you and let you know but it went totally out of my mind. Really, really sorry mate maybe next year. Not sure if you know a guy called John Duffy, another good city fan who has moved to Dubai in the last couple of months in orderto improve his standard of life Lol.

Doug H.- You yourself are a true legend mate, and we really must make an effort to hook up sometime and swap stories.

Now I notice finding the time to sink a few isn't too hard, but the time I waste trying to recover from them is the problem...
