What do we need to do in the summer?

Here is the place to talk about all things city and football!

What do we need to do in the summer?

Postby nottsblue » Sun May 26, 2024 12:00 pm

Further to the season reflection thread I thought rather than muddy the waters of what has been and what should come, here’s a thread for what should we do in the summer

How much of a clear out do we need?
Who should we bring in?
Do we need to tweak too much if indeed this is our last season under Pep?

I think if good offers come in, Bernie, Walker and Stones could go. All 3 have been with us for years now and are all huge reasons for our continuing success. But all three for varying reasons have seen their performances tail off and given their ages it isn’t a slide that will be reversed so we should look to cash in if the right offers come in. Obviously if they don’t they they stay but will feature less and less as Lewis Bobb and Gvardiol move into their positions

Ederson is going nowhere, that’s simply paper talk bullshit. Ortega will also stay

KDB is going to be choice that will divide. Only a year left on his contract at 32 the sensible business decision is to cash in if an huge bid from somewhere comes in. Especially as his form, though still good, is waning. Foden is a seamless ready made replacement. But he is the type of player whose game isn’t reliant on pace and he could easily play another 2/3 years at the top like Modric does now and Pirlo before him at Juventus. His game time will have to be managed well but that’s the same for a lot of players and the squad in general

Haaland I don’t think is with us for 7/8/9 years like a lot of the guys. He’s had another strong season in terms of goals scored but in the really big games he has been found wanting. Of course that could be down to the way we approach those those games but it has to be said he hasn’t covered himself in massive glory. But realistically, who would buy him? Madrid is the only real option and with them signing Mbappe you’d assume they wouldn’t go in for both with Endrick joining as well.

Phillips surely will be sold or go out on loan, same as Cancelo

So I don’t think we will see huge changes myself

I do think this will be Pep’s last season as well so I’d imagine we won’t sign lots of new players in case his successor doesn’t want them

Replace Mahrez and Gundo, like we should have last summer. Properly, not with squad players that we can bring on when 3 up against Bournemouth. Players that will actually challenge the first team players and make it difficult for Pep to drop them.

Same. Emotions aside, and can’t thank him enough for what he’s done over the years, but if he goes away with Belgium this summer we might as well write off the first few months of next season for him.

Assuming gomez, phillips and possibly Bernardo go thats a min of three we need in before we do any other non forseen business(such as a kdb or stones).

Priority for me is to replace Phillips, not the phillips we have but basically a back up for rodri. He cant play every game all the time and we cant go to shite without him so someone top class. No idea who.

One would expect Savio to join too so thats another wide option to replace bernardo.

It would be nice to get a really attacking left back to give us another dimension there, i like ait nouri reminds me of a young Gareth bale.

If we lost a striker for whatever reason, i reckon Isak would be brilliant for us.

Our summer transfers also depend on Pep’s situation.

If we’re trying to negotiate with a top top player and they’re asking if Pep will be here beyond next summer they’ll probably want answers before committing.

Haaland was one. I’m sure he got assurances of Pep’s situation before he signed. Pep added an extra year a few months after Haaland signed.

Any other top player would want assurances RE: Pep as well, imo.

Like you say, there’s not many around. Especially ones that are attainable. I do think Madrid might be tested though for a few of there’s, with Mbappe coming in and blowing their budget

Time to call in the favours from Girona, get our players back and Silvio. Let them play for their right to be in the starting eleven.

I am pleased to see Tin tin wants to stay and finish his career with us . If he can rest a little and get his fitness back he will be great with players like Foden, Silvio, Bobb et al.

Even if the Captain disappears .

As i am hearing Stones and Jack on the Razz again. Perhaps a clear out is needed too.

We need three top players in the middle.
Who, I have no fucking idea. Will settle for Paqueta, Wirtz and Guimaraes.

But honestly, that is the key.

Gomez, Philips,stones,grealish, need to go.
Nunez seems to be a player that hopefully needs need time to city's way playing.
Bobb and Rico needs more game time.
Savio straight into first team brought in gradually.

Disagree re Nunes have seen fuck all from him to suggest he is anywhere near good enough. IF we lose Bernie then we HAVE to make a marquee signing to replace him and Gundo from last term. Incoming will tell us whether Pep is staying on. Again, this needs to be addressed asap no more fucking about with b- listers

I genuinely can’t think of a game Nunes has played that’s made me think he’ll make it. Hes shown absolutely nothing. Bobb against Newcastle. Rico multiple times. Both shown they’ll make it at City more than Nunes. Nunes looks “alright” against Luton, but you’d expect that and he’s still way way off our level. Kev showed he dislikes the guy when he came off with his finger last season. The fact he was bollocking Lewis for a misplaced pass says it all about him

Totally agree, Pep has shown he just doesn't trust Nunes, he's only played against the lesser teams.
He has a turn of pace in space but lacks control and his shooting is awful.

Imo he was a rushed 'panic buy' mistake. Having missed out on Bellingham, Rice and Paqueta and with KDB out injured for months. Cole Palmer wanted to go out on loan but we insisted on a sale, (you would assume for the money?) we received €47m for Palmer then bought Nunes for €62m!

100% and more. Every season has been his last, before that he wasn't going to come. It's the same as whether we can be classed as a great side

Winning a double - nah
100 points - not really mentioned
treble- nah
3 PL on the spin - nah
Need to win a CL,
Need to win 2 CLs on the trot or multiple
4 PL in a row , nah
Any prizes we win have been bought
Oh ok, you're not the biggest spenders but your stadiums empty
Stadium capacity one of the highest to be filled but your fans are plastic
You bribed CAS
PL 115 charges means you cheated - hand all your trophies back

Tired of the City bingo card and the all too obvious agenda.

Although i have little sympathy for Utd , look how Shearer the cunt completely belittled Ten Hag in a post match interview . The media are just cunts
